I often get asked when clients phone me about cognitive hypnotherapy and other services I offer; about how they know it will work. The most important thing is to ensure that you have trust in the methods I use and feel comfortable working with me. However, other things to consider are listed below:

Ask yourself -

Does the therapist use methods that have been scientifically shown to work.

Then make sure your relationship with your therapist is defined by trust, safety, and agreement about how to proceed in your sessions.

Check to see if the therapist models acceptance and non-judgment, attention to the present moment from a deeper more “spiritual” sense of self, and commitment to a values-based approach, even to you.

Over time look to see if your therapist helps you take a more aware, open, and values-based approach to your own life.

If you see those qualities in your therapist and sense those changes emerging in yourself, congratulations. In all likelihood, you’ve picked a good one!

Happiness 😇

I was reading an article about happiness and how it impacts well-being.

For the fifth year in a row, Finland is number one when it comes to happiness. The country consistently ranks amongst one of top education systems in the world. Much of that success comes from a widespread reverence for teachers, who are required to have a master’s degree (their education is state-funded), and a pedagogical system that focuses less on quantitative testing and more on experiential learning and equal opportunity.

Before I set up my own business I was a teacher and senior leader in a secondary school. I loved the children but what I didn’t like was the way that our children were viewed; education is more about data and how they add to the league tables. We have moved away from enriching children’s lives and allowing them to truly focus on experiential learning.

Well-being starts with us as a society taking responsibility to make sure that both our children and teachers feel valued - until that fundamental premise is met - we have no hope of ensuring that happiness has a chance.

So what steps can you take personally?

Simple steps:

1. Allow at least 10mins first thing in the morning to meditate 🧘🏼‍♀️ take time to be present
2. Gratitude - write or note at least 3 things to be grateful for each morning 🙂
3. Breathe - slow breaths

🧘🏼‍♀️Breathing is something we take for granted but it can also be transformative.

How often do we find ourselves in stressful situations?

One thing I do with my clients on a regular basis is give them this simple tool to help with difficult situations.

So instead of reaching for alcohol, food or online shopping or whatever destructive habit gives you comfort - when you are triggered by a difficult situation - take a deep breath, hold it for a count of 6 and then exhale slowly. Do this two or three times and this will help to calm the nervous system down.

So let whatever difficult situation transform you, take a step back and take a few deep breaths.

Everyone does the best they can with the knowledge they have. Sometimes, we make judgments when others don’t meet our expectations particularly expectations we have four ourselves. So, it is important to be gentle with ourselves and others.
🧘🏼‍♀️Try to take at least 10mins each day to be mindful each day, this helps to reset. Today I did a living kindness meditation for myself and others.

Happiness comes from within There is no better time to be happy than right now. It is important to remember that your life will always be filled with challenges.

"For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, or a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life."

This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way.

So, treasure every moment that you have and treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time...and remember that time waits for no one.

So, stop waiting until you lose ten pounds, until you gain ten pounds, until you have kids, until your kids leave home, until you start work, until you retire, until you get married, until you get divorced, until Friday night, until Sunday morning, until you get a new car or home, until your car or home is paid off, until spring, until summer, until winter, until your song comes on, until you've had a drink.... there is no better time than right now to be happy.

Do you have a problem with insomnia?

Today is World sleep Day 🛌 💤

In this ever busy world - sleep is an under rated activity. However, it’s benefits are multifaceted. We all know it improves our cognitive memory, improves our immune response and balances our hormones.

Insomnia for many is a real problem and the worry of not being able to sleep creates more worry and stress.

Cognitive hypnotherapy and mindfulness 🧘‍♂️ can really help with insomnia.
