When the Past Still Lives in the Body 🧘♂️
Sometimes, the things we went through as children didn’t just happen then - they stayed with us. If we experienced trauma at a young age, our body can learn that the world isn’t safe. That memory isn’t always conscious, but our body remembers.
And so years later, even in adulthood. something small can set it off.
It could be the way someone’s hair falls, the shape of their body, a tone in their voice, a loud sound that you weren't expecting, the way a room smells as you walk through. Your logical mind might brush it off, but your body reacts before you even understand why. That one little trigger can shift how you feel for hours, days, even weeks.
Often, it takes time to even notice these patterns. But once you do, it can feel frustrating, even exhausting, when you want to “just heal and move on.”
Here’s the thing: healing isn’t always about diving into the deepest emotions right away. Sometimes the very first, most powerful step is simply showing your body that it is safe now.
It doesn’t have to involve big emotional techniques, intense meditation, or screaming therapy. It might just mean:
💛 Sitting on the floor and breathing
💛 Walking outside and noticing the trees
💛 Lying down with a blanket and doing nothing
💛 Walking and taking in the views
💛 Eating food that truly nourishes you
💛 Ignoring the phone for a while and letting yourself rest
When the body feels safe, we can then - at your pace, with your permission - explore deeper healing. But there’s no rush.
If you’re in a place where you want to heal but it feels too overwhelming right now… that’s okay. Before your session, you can tell me “I just can’t right now,” and I will tailor our time together. We won’t dig deep into emotions or force big changes. Instead, I’ll simply balance your body using gentle, stress-reducing techniques from Traditional Chinese Medicine, and I’ll be there fully present, to witness whatever you choose to share.
It might be that the most healing thing you can do right now… is simply to not be alone with it.
