Sussex Sunshine Play Therapy

Sussex Sunshine Play Therapy Child-Centred Therapy is a form of counselling that places the child at the heart of the therapeutic process.

Mobile play therapy supporting children’s emotional wellbeing — including those experiencing trauma, anxiety, school avoidance, neurodiversity, adoption, and fostering across West Sussex. Grounded in the principles of Carl Rogers’ Person-Centred Approach, this therapy creates a safe, supportive, and accepting environment in which children can freely express themselves without fear of judgment. In

this approach, the therapist does not direct the child or impose interpretations. Instead, they follow the child’s lead — respecting their pace, their interests, and their ways of communicating, whether through talk, play, art, or silence.

Sussex Sunshine Play Therapy is a Local Authority approved provider of play therapy through the Adoption Support Fund (ASF).

We support children to process their trauma through a language they understand — play.

Through specialist therapeutic play, children are given a safe and respectful space to express feelings, experiences, and memories that are often too difficult to put into words. Play therapy helps children build emotional resilience, improve wellbeing, and feel better understood.

If you are an adoptive family or supporting a child with ASF eligibility and would like to explore play therapy support, feel free to get in touch to learn more.

This week is Children’s Mental Health Week 💛

At Sussex Sunshine Play Therapy, we see every day how powerful it is when children are given a safe space to express their feelings through play, creativity and connection.

Children don’t always have the words to explain what’s going on inside — but through play, their worries, strengths, questions and hopes can be seen and understood.

This week is a good reminder to:
☀️ Listen without rushing
☀️ Notice changes in behaviour
☀️ Make time for play and connection
☀️ Reassure children that feelings are welcome

If you’re concerned about a child’s emotional wellbeing, early support can make a real difference.

Running an endurance event for Andy’s Angels is far more than a physical challenge, it is a powerful act of remembrance, solidarity, and hope for families navigating the devastating loss of a loved one.

Endurance running embodies the very spirit of what Andy’s Angels stands for.
💙It is about perseverance when the road feels endless.
💙It is about putting one foot in front of the other when the body aches and the mind wants to stop.
💙It mirrors, in a small but meaningful way, the emotional endurance that bereaved families live with every single day.

When someone chooses to run for Andy’s Angels, they are not simply taking on miles, they are carrying stories, memories, and love with them.
Each training session becomes a quiet moment of reflection.
Each early morning run, each hill climbed, and each blister endured becomes an act of purpose.
The challenge becomes symbolic: if we can push through this, we can help others push through something far harder.

On race day, the experience is profoundly moving. Supporters, friends, and strangers cheer from the sidelines, unaware that the runner’s motivation is rooted in something deeply personal and meaningful. The Andy’s Angels name on a T-shirt becomes a conversation starter, a moment to share why the charity matters, and an opportunity to raise awareness of the support it provides to grieving families.

Endurance events also create a shared journey. Supporters follow the training, donate, and send messages of encouragement. The runner is never alone just as Andy’s Angels ensures that no bereaved family has to face their grief alone. You get a dedicated 1:1 supporter.

The miles connect people, weaving a community bound together by compassion and purpose.

There is also something profoundly healing in movement.
Running gives space for thoughts, for memories, and for quiet reflection.
Many runners describe how the rhythm of their footsteps becomes almost meditative. For some, it is a way to process emotions; for others, it is a way to honour a loved one’s memory in a deeply personal way.

Crossing the finish line is emotional, not because the run is over, but because of what it represents. It stands as a testament to what can be achieved when determination is paired with purpose. Funds raised go on to provide vital support packs, comfort items, and practical help for families at the very moment they need it most.

Ultimately, running an endurance event for Andy’s Angels turns physical effort into tangible compassion. It transforms miles into memories honoured, pain into purpose, and personal challenge into collective support.

Every step taken is a step taken for a family who needs to know they are not alone.
