Join woodlander, ethnobotanist and educator Bec Briar and bushcrafter Jules Bristol to explore five of our landscape's native tree species.

Each session we will discover the secrets and stories of one species, its biology, folklore, craft and herbal medicinal uses.

We will work with each tree to learn more about what trees are; how they grow, how they interact with each other and with us, and how they connect and define the ecosystems around them.

Each session involves handcrafting with sustainably harvested tree materials, learning skills such as weaving and natural ink making.

Ideal for those who want to develop their understanding of trees and our human interactions with them, who want to learn nature connection techniques, or simply wish to increase their understanding of trees and all their incredible secrets.

Next week's Woodland Women is all about discovering Spring.

We will walk the woodland pathways looking at the secrets of the trees in spring, their flowers and new growth all around us.

Drawing from her ethnobotanical knowledge of the plants and the woodland through the seasons, Bec will gently guide you through the trees revealing the secrets of spring.

We will gather herbs together for wild teas, and make heart strengthening tinctures together under the roundhouse.

As we gather to make medicines, we will share a communal meal around the campfire.

Woodland Women was a treat today in the sunshine!

Thank you to all who came along and especially Jules who came to share her love of plants.

We ate well, learned about spring herbs, shared cake, talked about colonialism and plant stories, relaxed in the sunshine and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of the arboretum at Tortworth.

The next session is in a month and we will be celebrating spring time together in the roundhouse.

Join us for a weekend of woodland explorations on our Wild Camp at Tortworth Arboretum, South Gloucestershire in June.

This weekend is designed to support you to gain skills and confidence camping, learn about woodland plants and how to stay safe, and have a few useful bushcraft skills under your belt.

We welcome all wxmen who want to try out or practice outdoor knowledge and skills in a non-competitive, supportive environment.

The weekend is all about those skills and experiences you gain from thriving in a woodland, learning how to read the landscape, how to experience a deep connection to nature through living among it and using your hands to create.

A simple soup and bread is provided on Friday evening but you will need to bring your own food and water for the remaining meals. We have a communal fire on which you can cook your food.

We will join together on Friday evening and set up camp, and Saturday we will gather for walks and workshops in the roundhouse. You will leave on Sunday before lunch with a set of new skills and a lingering essence of woodsmoke in your hair.

Join our community of women, push the boundaries of your abilities, learn new skills and see how resilient you are!
We welcome all people who identify as women.

Workshops:

Using bushcraft knives - learn a selection of bushcraft techniques and make your own tent pegs, simple wooden spoon or pot hanger.
