Bowel cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Wales. We know there are new technologies that can make a difference, and this SBRI Centre of Excellence collaboration is evaluating a product that could:
✅ Detect cancer earlier — even before symptoms appear
✅ Reduce the number of unnecessary colonoscopies
✅ Speed up diagnosis for those at highest risk
✅ Encourage more people to take part in screening
✅ Help the NHS use its resources more effectively
It’s a great example of how innovation, clinical research, and cross-sector collaboration can come together to tackle real-world health challenges.
We’re proud to support this work with Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, CanSense, and Department of Health NI — and to help bring life-saving innovation closer to the people who need it most.

Researchers at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTM UHB) have launched a research study that will investigate whether bowel cancer and polyps (abnormal cells that grow inside the body which can turn into cancer) can be identified by a simple blood test.
