Let’s dance! 💃🕺

Today at Avocet House, some of our lovely care staff were chatting with residents about their cultures. Before we knew it, a dance video appeared on the TV in the lounge—and the dancing soon began! 🎶

The music, fun, and laughter travelled through the corridors, enticing more people to pop in and join the fun. A big shout-out to Margaret and Anne, who showed us their best dance moves! 🌟

We truly cherish these ad hoc moments that bring so much joy, connection, and happiness to our home. ❤️

👀 Eyes down… it’s Bingo time! 🎉

This morning we gathered in our beautiful tearoom for a fun-filled game of Bingo. A big well done to Judy for winning a line and to Margaret for calling Full House! 🏆

And of course, there’s always time afterwards to enjoy a cuppa and a good chat — the perfect way to round off a lovely morning ☕💬

Happy National Rubber Duck Day! 🦆💛

As we couldn’t all manage a bath with a rubber duck, we brought the fun to the lounge instead — out came the paddling pool and it was time for Hook-a-Duck!

The giggles started during set-up as our activities coordinator inflated the pool and poured jug after jug of water. Before long, residents gathered, drawn in by the laughter and curious to see what was happening. Soon, the lounge was filled with eager participants ready to join in.

A whiteboard scoreboard appeared (with prizes, of course!), a little friendly competition was added, and the fun truly began. It was made even more special by staff and family members getting involved too.

Well done to everyone who took part — and a special mention to Mary, who won by just one point, narrowly beating Jan! 🏆

🎬 A Lovely Moment at Avocet House 🎬

A wonderful moment was captured with Paul and Phil enjoying a lively discussion about the classic film The Italian Job. Phil had brought a book into the lounge all about the making of the film, which quickly piqued the interest of others — Paul in particular!

The pair shared their favourite scenes, swapped fascinating facts from the book, and of course couldn’t resist quoting the famous line…
👉 “You’re only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!”

Moments like these — full of conversation, laughter and shared interests — are what make life at Avocet House so special.

🍪 Busy Bakers at Avocet House! 🍪

This afternoon our residents gathered in our beautiful tearoom to bake some scrumptious shortbread, and what a lovely time it was 💛
As we mixed our ingredients, the room was filled with memories of baking at home with children and joyful visits to local bakeries for a special treat.

By chance, we had a table of ladies and a table of gents, so of course a friendly competition was in order! The ladies chose heart-shaped cutters ❤️ while the gents went for star shapes ⭐

Once baked, one of our wonderful care staff, Graham, was given the very tough job of chief taster. Taking his role extremely seriously (with a drum roll, of course 🥁), Graham announced the hearts as the winners! Well done, ladies! He did add that both biscuits were delicious, but the hearts just had that little something special.

Our gents weren’t disheartened at all and proudly celebrated their achievements. Paul shared:
“I’ve never done any baking before. I really enjoyed that, doing something new for the first time. I’m really pleased I gave it a go.”

Now the big question is… what shall we bake next? 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

Dancing our way into fun at Avocet House! 🎩💃

Before winter, we loved taking part in seated line dance sessions and said we couldn’t wait to do them again. Thanks to Lorraine, our wonderful activities lady, we’re back — with some fantastic new dance routines to try!

Today marked our first session, dancing with hats to jazz, Charleston, and other fabulous feel-good music. There was laughter throughout, plenty of movement (exercise without even noticing!), and best of all… nobody lost their hat! 😄

Already looking forward to the next one!
