🎲✨ An afternoon of good old-fashioned tabletop games! ✨🎲

We enjoyed a delightful selection of timeless classics — Ludo, Snakes and Ladders, Dominoes and more. It was wonderful not only playing these games, but also sharing memories of times we’ve enjoyed them in the past.

Sylvia clearly had luck on her side today, winning both Ludo and Dominoes — well done, Sylvia! 🏆👏

💪✨ It was wonderful to welcome back Elly from Be Great Fitness today — we’ve certainly missed her over the Christmas period!

That said, we didn’t let ourselves slip. Despite the chocolates and mince pies 🍫🥧, we kept up with our exercise sessions while Elly was away.

Elly was really impressed with everyone’s movement and flexibility today — a true testament to all the hard work put in over the festive period.

Well done everyone for the fantastic effort today and throughout the holidays! 👏👏

✨ New Year Wishes at Avocet House ✨

This year at Avocet House, we’ve taken a slightly different approach to New Year’s resolutions. Instead of resolutions, we asked our residents to share a New Year wish.

The idea is simple: with a little support, we’ll do our very best to help make these wishes come true. 💛

Some residents have wished for health and happiness — and we’ll continue to support those wishes as best we can — while others have shared some truly inspiring hopes for the year ahead.

❄️ Snow! ❄️

We woke up this morning to a world wrapped in a beautiful white blanket. As bedroom curtains were drawn back, gasps of “oohs” and “aahhs” filled the air as our lovely residents took in the snowy scene outside.

This quickly led to some wonderful, reminiscent chats about snow days gone by. For those overlooking the park, there was pure joy in watching children and dogs playing in the snow, all while staying snug and warm indoors. ☕🏡

We hope you’ve all enjoyed a little moment with the snow today — whether you ventured out yourself or simply watched others enjoy the magic. ✨

🎉 We kicked off the new year with a New Year’s–themed quiz! 🎉

We were missing a few of our regular quiz masters today, but we still managed to form three teams. With a mix of long-forgotten knowledge, clever logical thinking, and a healthy dose of pure guesswork, something amazing happened…

All three teams scored 11 out of 20! 🧠✨

The quiz sheets were checked and verified, and despite each team getting different questions right and wrong, it really was a three-way tie.

Prizes all round! 🏆 What a great way to start the new year! 🎊

Well… it wouldn’t be Christmas without a pantomime, would it? 🎭🎄

Today we enjoyed a wonderful afternoon in our cinema room watching Jack and the Beanstalk. To make sure everyone could join in, we had a handy panto guide for reminders — or to help those less familiar with the pantomime tradition — plus song sheets so we could sing along to the silly songs! 🎶😄

And of course, no cinema experience would be complete without snacks and drinks. 🍿🥤

Christmas Flowers! 🌸✨

Someone told us today that Kirton Flower Shop have sent out over 400 bouquets of flowers this Christmas period — and probably even more than that! 💐

Here at Avocet House, many of our residents have had the pleasure of receiving beautiful bouquets from loved ones. Not only that, we’ve also been treated to plants flowering earlier than expected, along with some wonderful flower arranging using donated bouquets.

These photos capture just how special those moments were:
🌼 Ivy receiving a stunning bouquet — her face says it all. She was in awe and said, “They are so beautiful I could cry.”
🌼 Judy using donated flowers to create gorgeous arrangements that brightened up our dining tables.
🌼 And Iris, watching her eager flower open early — one photo taken in the evening and the next the following morning! Iris shared, “Oh, I enjoy watching it grow. I look forward to seeing it every day to watch how it has changed.”

All beautiful, and all making such a meaningful impact. 💖

Just when you thought it was safe at Avocet House… look who turned up again! 🎄🧝‍♂️

Yes — our Elf! And this time he really went to town! 😆 Our Home Manager and Care Manager’s office was completely wrapped up… the door, office chairs, laptops, computer screens, keyboards — even the telephone! 🎁📞💻

All topped off with a little message from our Elf, who said he wanted to leave them a present before heading off for the year.

Well… we were all looking forward to a visit from Bailey at BeGreatFitness this Monday, but unfortunately he had to cancel due to illness. 💙

Our residents love their exercise sessions here at Avocet House, so we couldn’t do nothing! 💪 We headed to the cinema room, where our Activities Lady found a great video to guide us through some gentle chair exercises.

We were very impressed with our coordination and flexibility! 👏😊

Our comedy club gathered for a wonderful Christmas episode of The Vicar of Dibley! 🎄✨ From the fabulous sprout-off to countless Christmas dinners, Dawn French and the cast had us laughing nonstop with their witty one-liners and priceless facial expressions. 😂

Homemade games = BIG fun! 🙌

Everyone had a blast testing their skills with the different ball games.
Judy may have slightly bent the rules (classic Judy 😂), but the laughs made it worth it!

The first floor enjoyed them so much they asked to keep them in the lounge for later — happy gaming! 🎉
