Natural light is crucial in regulating our hormones, such as melatonin and serotonin, which play a big role in how we feel, and levels of depression.

Losing weight is not easy; it’s a complex balance between making sure our body has enough fuel to thrive optimally every day, but is in enough of an energy deficit to reduce fat stores.
There is no single perfect method to lose excess fat, but this is a positive thing, because it gives you the flexibility to find a method that works for you!

However, rapid, drastic weight loss ALWAYS comes with negative health consequences, therefore some methods are definitely more healthy than others!

Patience, consistency and sustainable choices are the best strategies for losing fat mass healthily, and for feeling confident and happy in your body 👌🏻

When I’m busy, sleep and good nutrition are the first things to go out of the window, so this week I know I need to be strict with myself to not fall into bad habits.

We know we need to put in the training sessions to get our body strong, fit and performing well. But have you also addressed the other crucial element of nutrition? 🍌

Fuelling your workouts and sporting events correctly can unlock that extra level of performance that your body is capable of.
I frequently hear how much better people feel in their training and competitions when they simply give their body the food it needs; it’s simple, but not commonly done!

Friday Food Fact: Weight loss by exercise alone?

Because the body is super clever, the more energy we burn, the more energy it nudges us to consume. This is a genius effect of biology, but not as helpful in today’s society when food is much more calorific than it used to be.

Achy muscles? Heavy legs? Stiff shoulders?

Tired muscles become tight muscles, as your body tries to protect itself from overuse before it’s fully recovered.
Whilst giving them sufficient time to recover, you can help the process along by encouraging muscle warmth, mobility and blood flow.

Whilst stretching has its place, it’s often not effective enough when trying to ease aching muscles. That’s where deeper, direct techniques like massage guns, foam rolling and sports massage come into play 👌🏻

Time is the best healer, but we can do our bit to help our body recover optimally.

Do you have back or neck pain?

Most people will get this at least once in their lives, as it is the single most common musculoskeletal condition in the world; an annoying consequence of humans walking on two legs!

But the positive news is that for 95% of back pain, there is no serious cause, and therefore we can safely use selected movements, hands-on treatment and warmth to ease the pain and get you back feeling comfortable again 👌🏻

So if your pain is disrupting your daily life, if it keeps coming back, or you want to make sure it doesn’t affect you in the future, there are plenty of things you can do to address your back pain!

Officially 2 weeks into TCS London Marathon training 🎉
Feeling very lucky to be properly back at it after a tendon injury post Abingdon Marathon sidelined my normal running for 10 weeks.

Injuries are inevitable, but how you deal with them is up to you:
- ADAPT to the situation, and make sure you focus on what you are able to do.
- PRIORITISE what is important right now; competitions/races will still be there next year, but you can’t do those if you don’t take the time to heal now.
- REALISE why you do what you do; remind yourself why you love your sport, and that will motivate you for your return to full health.

Trainee Sports Therapist, Sports Massage Therapist and Exercise Professional

I am currently at University, studying MSc Sports Therapy. Once graduated, I will have the knowledge and practical skills to diagnose, treat and rehabilitate musculoskeletal injuries. I will also be able to give advice in trying to reduce injury risk as much as can be possible.

I currently am fully qualified in Sports Massage, working as a mobile therapist, so you can have treatment in the comfort of your own home.

I am also a fully qualified and experienced Personal Trainer and Level 4 Exercise Referral Specialist (Cardiac, Stroke and Falls Prevention), therefore can provide exercise advice too.
