My Story
9 years ago I bought my first Tibetan Singing Bowl in a traditional Tibetan shop in Hay-on-Wye. I was drawn to it’s tribal markings and unearthly sound. Having said that, it never played for me, until recently. The next time I visited Hay-on-Wye the shop was gone. This was a reflection of how elusive learning about the bowls has been for me, even though drawn to them. Over the years, one became two, as we received a singing bowl as a wedding present. And for a number of years, they sat untouched on a shelf.
One day, my friend Manuela (now also a sound healer and meditation teacher) text me to say that I needed to join her at a singing bowl meditation she had heard of happening that night. I had just got out of hospital from a major operation and it was the last thing I wanted to do. She insisted. I couldn’t drive, so she collected me from my house to go and we lay down on a mat in a local yoga studio. This first session, hearing the bowls played by Charlie, my teacher, was bizarre. It was relaxing and yet I was full of alertness, it was soothing and yet some of the sounds were alien to my ears. I woke up refreshed and grateful. My body felt better. That was really something after my recent medical history. The following two days I was very sick. It was as if my body had forgotten how to de-toxify and the bowls had kick started the experience. After 2 days I awoke feeling much better than I had in years and so I continued to go every week, sometimes twice a week.
I didn’t know it then, but later it was confirmed that my body’s natural system of detoxifying just wasn’t working. Many of the chronic fatigue symptoms I had been suffering from were explained. It wasn’t just my body’s ability to balance that was aided from regular visits to the Tibetan Bowl meditations, my mind was clearer and I felt noticeably different after laying down to receive. I gradually learned more, bought more bowls, which I took to each meditation to soak up the healing vibrations and frequencies until finally I trained in 2018 to give 1:1 and group meditation experiences. I now have 13 bowls and counting.
I’d love to introduce you to them! Come join me in my facebook community to get to know me better: https://www.facebook.com/groups/besoundcommunity/
