🌿 A reminder of how we work

Tomorrow we’re launching a new project.

How do we fund our projects ?

At Mindful Photography UK, we are a Community Interest Company.
That means the work we do is rooted in social value, not profit.

Many of the opportunities we create are shaped and supported by the very people who take part in them.

People join us, experience the benefits of slowing down, taking notice, and nurturing awareness…
and some choose to give back—so that someone else, who may be struggling or unable to access support, can take part too.

It’s a simple idea, but a powerful one.
A pay-it-forward, community-funded approach where support is shared….

Just people, quietly supporting other people…. And wanting to remain anonymous.

That’s the ethos behind what we’re releasing tomorrow 💙

Guess where we are on Monday… one of my favourite towns… Selby ♥️

I used to be a Crime Scene Investigator — or, in old money, a Scenes of Crime Officer.

My job was to attend crime scenes and gather evidence.
At first, it was simply to look… and record.

Then came the detail:
fingerprints, swabs, photographs, footwear impressions.

And I loved this work.

Why?

Because I was slowing down.
I was taking notice.

Can you see the link to my mindfulness work now?

⸻

Of course, this work wasn’t always easy.
Far from it.

I’ve recently been putting some of those experiences down on paper — reflecting on what it meant, what it taught me, and how it shaped the work I do today.

⸻

Through Step Up, we now support people who are:
• not currently in work and looking for opportunities
• thinking about retraining or building new skills

We use mindful and therapeutic photography to help people rebuild confidence, reconnect, and move forward — gently, and at their own pace.

⸻

And the Selby link?

I was posted to Selby for a year — and it was one of my happiest working years.

I loved the people.
I loved the town and surrounding villages.

So it always feels special to be welcomed back.

⸻

If you’d like to be part of it, drop me an email.
(Last time I checked, there were only two places left…)

🎉 Look at what we’ve been up to…
82 participants in our mindful & therapeutic photography support last year. 48 in our project. Over 50 in our Women in York project. Over 100 in our Five Days in Between project. And 500 of you in our online community. đź’›
That’s a lot of people finding something good through a camera lens — and we’re just a small community interest company doing what we love.
We’re already well into our Step Up project too, with 42 participants counted so far and counting. 🙌
Want to be part of this? Now is your chance.
Step Up is flexible, accessible, and open to you whether you’re currently out of work or in work and looking to upskill. If you’re in North Yorkshire, drop me a message and let’s chat. 📩

Team work makes the dream work… and it certainly did for us.

🌿🍴📷

Here are some images from our Mindfulness and Cooking Workshop at Peasholm Park, Scarborough.

We started with a short discussion to help everyone arrive, settle and connect.
Then we headed out for a mindful photography walk, slowing down, taking notice and noticing the small details around us.

Afterwards, we regrouped and worked together to follow a joint recipe, creating our own protein-packed poke bowls.

There was chopping, sharing, encouraging, laughing… and plenty of teamwork.

The team spirit was amazing — people naturally supporting each other, building confidence and enjoying the process together.

Because sometimes wellbeing looks like:

🌟 A gentle walk
🌟 Shared tasks
🌟 Cooking together
🌟 Simple conversations
🌟 Teamwork

And that’s where the magic happens. ♥️

Slow down • Take notice • Nurture awareness

That’s our methodology in action. ♥️

Some history below ⬇️

Peasholm Park

• 📍 The park sits on the site of a medieval manor house of Northstead, part of the Crown Estate from the 14th century

• 🌾 By the early 1900s, the land was open farmland and allotments

• 🏞️ 1911 — Scarborough Corporation bought Tuckers Field from the Duchy of Lancaster to create a public park

• 🎎 Harry W. Smith (Borough Engineer) designed the park in a Japanese-style garden layout

• 🗿 Japanese-style statues were purchased from Killerby Hall

• 🌺 Exotic plants and shrubs were imported from a local retired banker living in the French Riviera

• 🌳 1921–1924 — Park expanded south-west along Peasholm Glen after further land purchases and donations

Happy Monday đź’™

Start the week as you mean to go on.

Slow down • Take notice • Nurture awareness

We created this line many moons ago to reflect our methodology — blending Mindful Photography with Therapeutic Photography.

What we love most is hearing people in our sessions now saying it back to us… and truly understanding what it means.

A truly meaningful impact. ♥️

A different kind of lesson planning !

What a wonderful day with Emma from The Wild Hoar yesterday.

We can’t wait to collaborate with Emma again as part of our Better Connect programmes.

I had to take a photo of a narrow boat with my name on it of course !

The waterways are actually quite noisy with people’s chatter, pumps and engines on narrow boats, clinking pint glasses from the pub and on this occasion the sound of a little duckling who’d fallen in the canal !

What do you hear .. then see this month ?
