** Retinol or retinal; what's in a vowel? **
If, like me, you maybe don't know as much about skincare ingredients as you'd thought and worried Tropic had made a huge typo in its Youth Potion retinal product 🙊, I'm here to set you straight! I have to admit this was the first I'd heard of retinal but a bit of research later I can confirm that that little vowel packs a big amount of difference.
As you'd expect, both retinol and retinal are from the same family of chemicals and have similar actions. Both need to be converted into retinoic acid in order to be bio available, and once they are they support the production of collagen. Collagen, as you probably know, is the skin's 'scaffold' so increased collagen reduces fine lines and wrinkles and helps to keep skin smooth and firm.
So back to the difference. The thing is, retinol has to be converted into retinal before being changed into retinoic acid. And being that step closer in the process makes a huge difference. In fact, retinal works up to 11x faster than retinol! So if you have mature skin and want to blitz those lines then retinal is definitely the ingredient to look for.
There are a couple of things to be aware of. Retinal is an incredibly effective ingredient but if you have very sensitive skin it might not be for you. If you notice any redness or irritation you should discontinue use. It can also be preferable for some people to apply at night rather than in the morning in case of any increased sensitivity to sunlight. And of course remember your SPF in the morning ☀️
So that's it! Youth Potion is Tropic's clinically proven anti aging retinal serum. It's available with a £10 discount until 2nd April, only via Ambassadors. If you'd like to try this wonder ingredient at the lowest price it will ever be then drop me a message to place your order!
