Action for Happiness has published its latest calendar called Do Good December. There are lots of suggestions for small things you can do to brighten the day for someone else and to help you feel good too. It's a lovely alternative to an advent calendar!

I've just managed to finish pages for this month and with no apology I've gone quite festive! I'm hoping that there will be something on here to help put you in the festive mood whether it be reading a fabulous book by Sue Moorcroft about a small village community working together to open a café in time for Christmas or by giving you ideas about how a simple card or a reverse advent could make someone else feel much happier. There's also a trip to York Minster for the Christmas tree festival and a suggestion that difficult times can be transformed into a wonderful memory if we let them. For those who find this time of year particularly difficult I send lots of hugs and a reminder that people do care. Reach out and hopefully there will be someone to give you a helping hand or a listening ear.

I'm not quite sure how I missed September but looking back it did pass by quickly and now we are already at the end of October with Halloween looming tomorrow. This year is flying by! New pages have just been posted and I hope that there is something to interest you there. This month: visit the British Ironworks Centre and see some amazing sculptures, knit, crochet or sew a hat to comfort a child suffering from cancer, accept that anxiety before a medical test is inevitable and understandable, try to find the good in every day however difficult it may seem and read my thoughts on living in a village. Book wise discover more about the practices carried out in a mother and baby home several decades ago - a shocking, disturbing and yet sometimes uplifting read. It's been a tricky month so sending out special hugs to those also experiencing difficult, sad and worrying times. Snuggle up with a cosy blanket, a hot drink and maybe a pet or two and enjoy a read. 😄

Another new month and Autumn is definitely here with the leaves changing colours and falling, bright but cold mornings and glorious blue skies. Action for Happiness understand that the lead into Winter can be hard for some people and their latest calendar focusses on having an optimistic October. 'In times of uncertainty, optimism becomes even more important. We can't control what happens, but we can choose to stay hopeful and take positive action. Join us for Optimistic October!' Give it a try and have a very happy month.

I love the monthly calendars that Action for Happiness send out -they are great prompts for daily actions to help you feel better about yourself. I'm so sorry that I am late posting this month's but perhaps you can catch up by doing two each day for a while!! We are all guilty of neglecting ourselves at times, particularly if we are busy helping other people but this month the focus is on taking care of ourselves. If we don't do that we are not always in the best position to help care for others - a gentle reminder to all of those who are taking on too much. It is important to put yourself first at times without feeling guilty about it. Happy September to you all.

It's been another crazy month with many ups and downs. I hope you are all faring well. New pages have just been added which may help cheer you up if you are feeling a little low. This month: visit the Yorkshire Sculpture park, indulge in a good book without feeling guilty, enjoy a tale of three sisters hiding secrets from one another and enrich your life by volunteering. There is also a reminder that the most beautiful things may be our memories and for those enduring cancer treatment, check out your local centre to see if there are any well being therapies on offer. I've been for one today and can highly recommend! As we come to the end of the summer and the weather starts to change, fill your life with friendship and good times where you can. Sending hugs to all in need. x

How can it be August already? Action for Happiness has just issued its latest monthly calendar to help you create happy moments for others. When we read the papers or listen to the news currently we can see that the world is very divided and people are struggling. Action for Happiness want to remind everyone that a small gesture of kindness is a very powerful way of promoting hope, whether it is supporting a friend or a stranger. A listening ear and some simple words or gestures can make someone feel better and more able to cope. In their words 'Every kind choice makes a difference.' Check out the suggestions and make a difference for someone today. I can guarantee that not only will it help them, but it will help you feel better about your day too!

We are fast approaching the end of another month and my life seems as hectic as ever, hence some focus on taking time out for yourself without feeling guilty! It's something we all should do but find difficult it seems. There's a lovely gentle holiday read about new beginnings and new friendships, a trip to see the bears and dolls houses at Newby Hall and information on how you can help children who unexpectedly find themselves in refuges without any belongings. My admiration for the Princess of Wales continues to grow with her comments on life after cancer and there's the usual dollop of positivity which will hopefully help you to walk away from tough situations to ensure you look after yourself. Enjoy the summer, make the most of each day and hugs as always to anyone who needs one! :)

The focus on the Action for Happiness calendar this month is resilience. That doesn’t mean pretending everything is fine every day because life just isn't like that. It means taking the week one day at a time and facing life’s ups and downs with courage and hope, because even when things are uncertain, we can still find ways to move forwards. The calendar has lots of suggestions that you can try out to help when times are tough. Hoping that your July is a happy and healthy one!

It's that time of the month again and June pages are now finally finished and uploaded. This month: focus on just having a day, a day to pamper and look after yourself, visit Camera Obscura in Edinburgh for an eye opening and mind blowing experience, donate your unwanted clothing to the sharewear charity, see the benefit and joy of completing a jigsaw (they aren't just for children!) and read about Jersey during the Occupation, following the stories of Grace and Bea. Based on true stories this will have you laughing and crying as you get to know these two feisty ladies. Finally, if you are going through cancer treatment at the moment, check out my tips on how to cope with neuropathy and have faith that things will improve. Wishing you all a happy last few days of June and a warm, happy and healthy July ahead. Sending hugs to all those who need them as always x

I missed posting the calendar for May created by Action for Happiness but getting in quick with the June one! This time they have suggested looking for and creating happy times in our lives. As they say, we can't always control our circumstances but we can choose to look for what's good even during the tough times. If we can create moments of joy for both ourselves and those around us, we can build resilience and provide a constant reminder of how wonderful it is to be alive. See how many you can complete.

Can you believe that May is almost over, already?! I'm running close to the wire this month but new pages have just been published - phew!! This month read about an unconventional family and their trials to remain together, recognise the benefits and pure joy of colouring , take a stroll around the Himalayan gardens and sculptures in Ripon and help wild creatures in your local area. For those in need of a little emotional support check out the positivity page and see how thinking positively can help you to move forward in life and discover the HOPE course for those facing the challenges of life after cancer treatment. As always I look forward to any comments or suggestions and send hugs and best wishes to anyone in need this month. June is almost here and hopefully some more bright sunny days. Enjoy!
