On International Women’s Day I’ve been reflecting on the ancient idea of the Kali Yuga — the age we are said to be living in according to Hindu cosmology.

Rather than seeing this simply as a difficult era, it can also be understood as a powerful time of awakening. When old structures no longer serve life, deeper wisdom begins to rise to the surface.

In the great stories of India, the goddesses Kali and Durga appear in moments like this. They embody clarity, protection, courage and the restoration of balance.

Their energy reminds us that the feminine carries immense creative and restorative power. It brings truth where there has been confusion, protection where life needs safeguarding, and wisdom that reconnects humanity with the living world.

Perhaps this is why so many women are remembering their voices, their intuition and their authority in this moment of history.

Women everywhere are nurturing life, speaking truth, restoring balance in families and communities, and guiding change with intelligence and heart.

And to the men who walk beside us, honouring and uniting with this balance of feminine and masculine wisdom

Happy International Women’s Day.

In these fast, uncertain times, many people are noticing just how much pressure their nervous systems are under.

Constant stimulation, emotional overload, world events, digital noise, and the pace of modern life can quietly pull us out of balance. We may feel anxious yet exhausted, mentally busy yet unfocused, physically tense yet depleted.

This is exactly where flower essences come into their own.

Gentle yet profound, they work through resonance with the subtle emotional field, helping to stabilise and harmonise inner states. By supporting shifts in awareness, they encourage the nervous system to settle, thoughts to become clearer, and the body to release held tension — restoring a natural equilibrium between emotions, mind, and physical wellbeing.

The beautiful system of Bach Flower Remedies supports common human states such as overwhelm, fear, worry, shock, and emotional fatigue. They help soften reactivity and encourage steadiness, clarity, and resilience.

Alongside these, the contemporary range from Ann Callaghan at Indigo Essences speaks deeply to the challenges of modern life — supporting sensitivity, boundary strength, energetic protection, and the ability to stay centred amid rapid change.

Together, these essences can help:

• calm emotional turbulence
• quiet mental overactivity
• ease stress held in the body
• strengthen inner stability
• support clear, grounded decision-making

Rather than suppressing feelings, they gently help us process, integrate, and rebalance — so we can meet life with greater steadiness and presence.

✨ Bespoke Essence Consultations Available ✨

If you feel drawn, I offer personal consultations to explore your current emotional landscape and create a tailored combination remedy just for you.

Your custom blend is provided in a convenient oral spritz bottle, easy to carry and simple to use throughout the day — a small but powerful ally for staying centred in challenging times.

If you’d like to know more or book a consultation, feel free to message me here or WhatsApp 07960751354

Sharing a memory of this beautiful 250-year-old property near York where I attended to perform a House Healing 5 years ago 💕

The family had recently moved in and already experienced some areas that felt off & the children were unsettled at night

People sometimes wonder what a house healing actually involves, so here’s a little window into the process…

Every place has its own presence — often described as the Spirit of Place — the unique consciousness of a building, home, or land. When space is held quietly and respectfully, this deeper intelligence tends to reveal what will best support harmony, balance, and wellbeing for all who live there, including family members, pets, plants, and visitors.

Part of the work involves sensing and dowsing the natural flows that move through a property — such as underground water lines, earth energies, and environmental influences — and gently restoring coherence where these may feel disrupted or draining.

Homes can also hold emotional imprints from past events or difficult periods in their history. When these are acknowledged and cleared, there is often a noticeable lightness that returns to the atmosphere of the space. Occasionally, this process may also include helping lost or unsettled souls continue their natural transition into peace, which is always experienced as a deeply calm and beautiful moment.

Sometimes these stories reach back far beyond the house itself, connecting to the longer history of the land. Each place carries its own unique narrative, which is always fascinating to witness.

By the end, the intention is simply that the space feels settled, balanced, and quietly protected — able to fully support the next chapter of life unfolding within it.

It’s a gentle but powerful gift to offer a home, especially at times of change or new beginnings 💕

This month I am offering a FREE 5 minute dowsing check for your property . Want to know whats aligned or off balance ? Drop me a message here or WhatsApp 07960751354

Dr Lara Briden is a naturopathic doctor (ND) with nearly three decades of clinical experience in women’s health. She holds a Bachelor of Science in evolutionary biology and a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, and is the bestselling author of Period Repair Manual, Hormone Repair Manual, and Metabolism Repair for Women, practical, science-grounded guides on hormones, menstrual health, and metabolic function. She sits on scientific advisory committees and treats conditions like PCOS, PMS, endometriosis, perimenopause, and metabolic dysfunction in her Christchurch, New Zealand practice.

Metabolic health comes from general health. Specifically, it comes from getting everything you need, including (but not limited to) protein, movement, and outdoor light.

The female body doesn't like to be micromanaged. Instead, can we embrace a little more softness in pursuit of metabolic health? And a little less rigidity? Health is a dynamic, whole-body project, not a numbers game.

You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves."

Why co-regulation matters: the science of feeling safe together ❤️‍🩹

Did you know that we are not designed to regulate our nervous systems alone?

From our very first breath, humans learn safety in relationship. A calm voice, steady presence, gentle touch these are not “extras”. They are how the nervous system learns to settle.

This is co-regulation.

When another person meets us with steadiness, empathy and attunement, our body can shift out of fight, flight, freeze or fawn and return to a state of safety and connection (what the nervous system calls the ventral vagal state).

Over time, this does more than soothe the moment.

✨ Why co-regulation matters
• Emotional safety & trust grow when distress is met with calm presence rather than fixing, minimising or withdrawing.
• Healing & growth occur as safe adult relationships gently re-pattern earlier attachment wounds.
• Greater emotional resilience develops — life feels more manageable when you’re not carrying it alone.
• Deeper intimacy & connection emerges, often supported by oxytocin — the hormone of bonding and closeness.
• Physical health benefits follow as cortisol levels reduce and the body spends less time in chronic stress.

🌀 What co-regulation looks like in real life
• Being truly present and listening without judgement
• Validating feelings: “That makes sense” goes a long way
• Calm tone, soft eye contact, open body language
• Consensual, reassuring touch — a hand, a hug, shared stillness
• Shared rhythms: walking together, breathing together, cooking mindfully
• Holding structure, calm and wisdom while another is dysregulated — trusting that this steady presence is exactly what allows their own regulation to come back online
• Only once co-regulation is achieved do logic, boundaries and problem-solving become useful

At its heart, co-regulation is a quiet, reciprocal practice to deepen trust , wellbeing & safety for, and with , those we care for .
When these are our aspirations, everyone wins 💖

A reminder that we don’t heal or stabilise in isolation ,we do it better with the steady presence of another

If you’d like support working with your nervous system , individually or within relationship , this is core to the work I offer and a counselling service is available for you here at Wellspring Holistic Therapies

Skin Brushing — everything you need to know

Dry skin brushing is a simple, time-honoured body ritual rooted in Ayurvedic practice, where it’s known as garshana. It’s done on dry skin using a natural bristle brush and supports circulation, lymphatic flow, and skin vitality through gentle, rhythmic touch.

The benefits of dry skin brushing

Dry brushing helps remove surface dead skin cells, leaving the skin smoother and more receptive to moisture. The brushing action also stimulates circulation and encourages lymphatic flow — supporting the body’s natural process of moving waste and excess fluid through the lymphatic system.

Regular dry brushing can help:
• support lymphatic drainage
• encourage healthy circulation
• create a feeling of lightness and flow in the body
• help reduce congestion in the tissues
• support smoother, clearer skin
• assist with ingrown hairs and clogged pores

Many people also find it deeply grounding, helping them reconnect with their body through intentional, caring touch.

Why the lymphatic system matters

The lymphatic system plays a vital role in immunity and detoxification. Unlike the circulatory system, it relies on movement and stimulation to flow effectively. Dry skin brushing offers a gentle way to encourage this movement, supporting overall vitality and immune resilience.

How to dry brush your body

Dry brushing is quick and easy and can be done daily or a few times a week.
• Brush on dry skin, ideally before showering
• Begin at the feet and brush upwards towards the heart
• Use long, sweeping strokes or gentle circular movements
• Continue up the legs, then the abdomen (moving anticlockwise)
• Brush the arms upwards towards the shoulders and chest
• Shower afterwards to rinse the skin
• Apply oil or moisturiser to nourish and hydrate

I highly recommend Neals Yard Lavender Body Lotion which boosts detoxification and leaves the skin glowing & so soft - link to product in the comments

How to care for your brush

Clean your brush every couple of weeks using a gentle soap and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and dry bristle-side down in a well-ventilated space to keep it fresh and effective.

Dry brushing is intended for the body rather than the face, where the skin is more delicate. It’s also best to skip areas of broken, inflamed, sunburnt or highly sensitive skin, including active eczema or pronounced varicose veins. As with all body practices, let sensation guide you — lighter pressure, fewer strokes, or pausing altogether are all part of listening we

✨ A full body aromatherapy massage at Wellspring Holistic Therapies also works with the same principles — supporting lymphatic flow through slow, rhythmic massage and carefully chosen essential oils.

A note on lightness, imagination, and letting go

I want to share a short 10-minute visualisation by John Gabriel that some people find quietly powerful.

First — and this matters — this is not about “weight loss” as a goal or a moral project.
That phrase alone carries so much strain, judgement, and effort.

All body sizes, shapes, histories, and abilities are 100% acceptable exactly as they are.
You are not a problem to be fixed. Nothing about you needs correcting.

This visualisation isn’t a suggestion that you’re not OK.
It’s an invitation — only if it appeals — to tune the imagination and subconscious toward lightness, ease, and alignment.

Especially if you’ve spent years battling, restricting, analysing, or wishing there were a key you never quite found… this can feel different.

There’s no “how”.
No counting.
No pressure.

Just resting the mind, daydreaming a little, and allowing the body and nervous system to soften.

Instead of trying to control or override yourself, you gently fill the hara with light
…and let what’s heavy ease away in its own time.

That’s it.
Relax.
Be held.
Let go.

✨ Reiki sessions can also be gently tailored to support this same intention of lightness and ease, if desired.

Eros in Menopause

embodiment, potency, and the living meaning of pleasure

This is also where Eros lives.
Menopause does not diminish it , it evolves it

Eros moves through the body as the capacity to feel, to be present, to be fully located in yourself.
It is nourished by beauty, articulation, expression, and alignment , anything that reconnects you to the pleasure of your own being.

It may still arise physically, or it may be a deeper felt sense of pleasure: in a movement, a voice, a glance, a poem, a gesture, a connection, a rhythm that feels uniquely yours.

• Feeling warmth in the body rather than bracing
• A softening in the chest or belly
• Wanting to move, speak, create, touch, or be touched
• A natural yes or no arising without effort
• Feeling more present in your own skin
• A sense that life is meeting you, not just demanding from you

Tapping into Eros makes you feel
• You are expressed rather than contained
• You feel connected to something larger than roles and responsibilities
• Life moves through you, not just around you
• You remember yourself as a living being, uniquely oriented to your own experiences, pleasures and self direction from inner knowledge

In menopause there is a natural shift
away from performance,
away from obligation,
away from the culture’s narrow definition of the feminine

And towards truth, resonance, and meaning.
It reconnects you to:
• Your own inner authority
• Your sense of belonging to life itself
• Your right to feel alive

When Eros is present, there is warmth in the body and a sense of pleasure connected to self , others , plants & animals , weather , skies , seas and seasons
Life feels inhabitable again.

Eros is what allows a woman to feel alive in her own terms, to inhabit her body, mind, voice, and place in the world with sovereignty , curiosity and agency

Eros akso means understanding and tending to our biology in order to create a strong foundation , or baseline stability and this includes enhancing endorphins , boosting serotonin & nourishing the body with good food or supplements if needed

And Holistic Therapies ! These are amazing allies in menopause 💖

• Aromatherapy & Women’s Balance Massage — using scent and touch to awaken presence and body awareness
• Bach Flower Remedies — bringing subtle rhythm and emotional clarity
• Hot Stone Massage — warmth and circulation that settle and energise
• Reflexology — stimulating chi and subtle pathways to awaken aliveness
• Reiki — cleansing and strengthening the aura, realigning energy to support expression

Menopause care should not be another to do list
It’s about listening, presence, and engagement with the fullness of yourself — mind, body, and spirit.
Tapping in, tuning in , being re sourced

If you’d like guidance, support, or a consultation to navigate this transition while activating your potency, Eros, and aliveness, you’re welcome to get in touch.
