Hot Stone Massage to Calm Your Nervous System & Ease Headaches

Did you know that ….
Tension-type headaches are the most common type of primary headache, accounting for nearly 90% of all headaches. They often start in the neck and shoulders, where stress, muscle tension, and lifestyle factors build up without relief, making them highly relevant to anyone experiencing chronic stress or physical strain.

What really helps ? ….
Hot stones, warmed to body temperature, pe*****te deep into muscle tissue, encouraging muscles to release and blood to flow more freely. This warmth helps the nervous system shift out of constant tension, allowing your body to truly relax. Many clients notice a lighter head, softer neck, and calmer mind after just one session.

So……
It’s not just comfort, it’s a physiological reset for a body that’s been holding too much and over time this can prevent the repeated occurrence of symptoms

The Gut–Brain Connection: Microbiome, Stress & Mood

Our gut and brain are in constant dialogue. This is known as the gut–brain axis, and it explains why stress affects digestion and why digestive problems can affect mood.
• The Microbiome: Trillions of bacteria in the gut help us digest food, balance hormones, regulate immunity, and even produce neurotransmitters like serotonin. A disrupted microbiome can leave us feeling low, anxious, or drained.
• The HPA Axis: The hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis is the body’s stress-response system. When activated too often, it keeps cortisol high, which can disturb the microbiome and aggravate issues like IBS, sleep disruption, or emotional overwhelm.

It’s important to say: most stress is structural. Workload, caring responsibilities, finances, health concerns , these are not personal failings, they are the conditions we’re living inside. So whilst we cannot run away and live in caves, we can create small, restorative counterweights for the body and mind !

🌿 Five stress-supports for daily life
1. Grounding therapies Reflexology, massage, or yoga help calm the nervous system and reset the stress loop.
2. Consistent sleep
Going to bed and waking at regular times supports hormone balance and reduces inflammation.
3. Blood sugar balance
Regular meals with protein and fibre can prevent the sharp dips that trigger more stress hormones.
4. Time outdoors
Even 15 minutes in natural light helps regulate mood, immunity, and the circadian rhythm.
5. Emotional support
This is where Bach Flower Remedies can be so powerful. They don’t erase the pressures of life, but they can gently ease the emotional load , helping with feelings of overwhelm, hopelessness, irritability, or exhaustion, so the nervous system isn’t carrying quite as much weight.

What you can expect during a Bach Flower Remedy consultation

Reflexology for Digestive Ease (IBS, Bloating, Flare-ups)

Many people don’t realise how strongly the digestive system is linked to stress. When we’re anxious, our body diverts energy away from digestion, which can worsen symptoms like bloating, pain, or irregularity.

Reflexology works by gently stimulating points on the feet that correspond with the stomach, intestines, liver, and nervous system. Clients often describe feeling deeply relaxed, lighter, and calmer afterwards , and over time, this can help:
✨ Ease stress-related flare-ups
✨ Support regular bowel movements
✨ Reduce tension that worsens bloating or cramps
✨ Encourage the body back into balance

While reflexology doesn’t replace medical care, it can be a soothing and supportive part of your self-care toolkit if your tummy often feels unsettled.

What to expect during your Reflexology

Your session begins with a soothing lavender & sea salt foot soak and a calming herbal tea , a moment to slow down and arrive. You’ll then settle onto the heated Dreamtime massage couch, cocooned in comfort as you receive your full reflexology treatment working the key areas relating to your specific needs

To complete your treatment your feet are gently exfoliate using hot mitts & a Neals Yard Rose Body Scrub , after which a moisturising Neals Yard Comfrey & Mallow Foot Balm is applied before your feet receive the hot stone foot wrap .

At the end of the hour you will notice a wave of relaxation through your whole body — a lightness in your tummy, a release of tension, and a deep sense of balance returning.

So much of what we call symptom is actually the body keeping faith with the unlived parts of our story. What can’t be spoken, expressed, or welcomed doesn’t vanish, it settles into our tissues, our nervous system, our breath.

This isn’t failure or pathology. It’s a sacred signal, the body speaking , inviting us to listen with tenderness instead of judgment.

Matt Licata puts this into words beautifully below.

If unlived experience is not able to be held and articulated – by way of symbol, language, or gesture – it will turn inward, taking up residency in tissue, muscle, and organ – finding a new home within the neural network.

This is neither pathology, nor error, but a kind of sacred signaling - where the body itself becomes the vessel for the unfinished conversation.

It can show up as tightness in the throat, difficulty speaking truth, or restlessness in the belly. In the heart, it might be an ache or longing that feels older than this life. It may manifest as fatigue, tension, heat, or trembling.

These are not random symptoms. They are the body’s poems of the soul, reminders of the parts of us that were never fully welcomed. They are how the body keeps faith with the unlived life - waiting, patiently, to be received with presence and love.

If you’re curious about what’s really going on with your hormones in midlife ,and how to feel your best ,this is a goldmine.

The brilliant Lara Briden, one of my favourite hormone health naturopaths, is part of Dr. Mariza Snyder’s upcoming Perimenopause Summit, alongside some incredible experts. They’re covering everything from muscle maintenance for longevity, to the link between trauma and autoimmune disease, to the physical and psychological impact of hormones at this stage of life.

Such a great resource if you want clear, evidence-based, and compassionate insights into your hormones right now.

Dr. Mariza Snyder has put together another great perimenopause summit, with some of the top experts, including Sara Szal Gottfried, Mindy Pelz, Sarah Hill, Gabrielle Lyon, and more!

Topics include:

● Why maintaining muscle is necessary for strength and longevity

● The connection between trauma and autoimmune disease in midlife

● The physical and psychological impact of hormones & hormonal birth control in perimenopause

● And many more!

My interview (Hormone repair after 40) is first up on Monday, August 11th. As usual, it's completely FREE to register and attend.

What does it mean to Land Fully in Yourself?

We all start life seeing the world mostly through our own eyes.

It’s part of being human.

But as we grow, something beautiful can happen , we can “land” in ourselves so deeply that we’re no longer the only centre of the story.

This isn’t about erasing yourself or giving too much away.

It’s about knowing your own ground so well that you can meet others where they are, too.

Self-actualisation is the name for this process.

It’s not instant, and it’s not about perfection.

It’s a gentle unfolding:

✨ Becoming grounded in who you are

✨ Feeling safe enough to listen with curiosity

✨ Enjoying the flow of mutual, nourishing relationships

Some relationships naturally allow for this kind of mutual growth. These are the ones worth growing and deepening over time

In others, the safest form of self-actualisation is to hold your ground, protect your energy, and choose distance. Both are acts of self-respect.

At Wellspring Holistic Therapies the talking space available to you is grounded in skills that make this growth possible:

Reflective listening — so you hear your own truth more clearly

Mirroring — so your words and feelings are truly seen and understood

Gentle challenge — so you can spot patterns that may be holding you back

Clarifying questions — to help you find the real heart of what matters to you

Containment — so you can explore safely, without judgement or overwhelm

When you choose this kind of space to work through issues , it becomes easier for you to discover your own voice, to make sense of your experiences, and to take steps toward deeper self-actualisation. It helps you to know yourself and to clarify which relationships you thrive in rather than just survive in

This isn’t just “talking about things.” It’s the work of coming home to yourself and doing it with a steady, experienced guide who will constructively & actively assist you in identifying what matters most to you in your experiences with self and others

You will get a comfy chair , a cup of tea and space to explore any sticking points and work out your next steps ✨

Just popped out to do a bit of massage first aid ✨

A frozen shoulder and stiff neck were threatening to ruin someone’s long-awaited camping trip… but with the help of Weleda’s arnica massage balm and a seated session, we slowly worked through the muscle tension until the area began to soften and release.

No fancy setup needed, just warmth, presence, and the right touch in the right places. So satisfying to see someone go from hunched and sore to freer and smiling again.

Nature, here they come 🌲💚
