The child drives their own process- any unresolved problems or experiences can be resolved or accepted by creating potential scenes through play (e.g in the sand)
The key difference of therapeutic play, compared with other interventions is that the therapist grants the child with the permissiveness to be themselves, following Axline’s principles- “the client is the source of living power that directs the growth from within himself” (2004). 🕊️

Therapeutic play relies on building a securer attachment - experiencing nurturing is a sensory experience that’s key to this attachment.👶👧

At the core of therapeutic play is giving the children the opportunity to develop a more secure attachment in their primary relationships.

The info below shows who specifically sessions are targeted for- it’s very broad!

I’m trained to deliver a non directive approach according to the integrative holistic model/ ‘whole child’. This is tailored to children who present behavioural, emotional and mental health difficulties.

Play is a child’s instinctual method of communication. It’s also the most powerful medium of self expression, essential for development. The sessions are designed to harness this & enable the child to reach their full potential.

Play allows them to be the agent of their own change and I will not lead the play. As a therapist, I trust that the client can drive their own healing and solve their own problems. The child is completely accepted and given the freedom to express their feelings;

“The child is given the opportunity to play out... accumulated feelings of tension, frustration, insecurity, aggression, fear, bewilderment, confusion. By playing out these feelings he brings them to the surface... learns to control them or abandon them” (Axline play therapy the inner dynamics of childhood, page 16).

This is some of my creative toolkit to give people an idea of what is involved in therapeutic play. There is a sand tray, puppets, therapeutic stories (which can be tailored specifically to the child using metaphors to achieve therapeutic objectives non directively), movement objects like fans, music, role play items, art and craft, miniatures and clay. Any questions or if you’re interested please don’t hesitate to message me☺️
