Nashville Doula - Kaitlin Stark

Nashville Doula - Kaitlin Stark hi there! I have a deep passion for womens health, labor and delivery, pregnancy, and especially postpartum care. all because it is your body and your baby.

my name is kaitlin, and I am a newly trained doula with the Harbor Birth Institute currently living in east nashville with my partner Logan and our two kitties, Lola and Ruby. while pregnancy and childbirth are beautiful, holy, and sacred, they can also be extremely traumatic and jarring - even if everything goes exactly to plan. bringing a baby home for the first time, especially for first time parents, will require careful planning, emotional preparation, and gentle support during pregnancy and after baby is earth-side. as a woman who one day hopes to have children of her own, it kills me to see women give birth, especially in the hospital setting, who don’t know they are in charge of their birthing experience. you are allowed to say no, allowed to change your mind, and even allowed to fire providers entirely! as your doula, i will use science-based and research driven birth data to help educate you on childbirth so that you feel empowered and strong enough to write your birth story exactly how you want it. while i am your advocate, my goal is to teach how you to bravely and safely advocate for yourself during your birth.

baby boy born this morning at 7:12am. mom & dad were total rockstars. I cried the entire way home and then my husband held me while i cried some before i fell asleep.

birth work is equal parts beautiful and magical and terrifying and hard. It’s unpredictable and can be really hard for doulas and parents alike when things don’t go according to plan. but man!!! is it so special to be there as a team of 3 to figure s**t out and rally to get baby safely into the world. And then when they finally meet that lil biscuit they made…. its all worth it in the end 💖💖💖

if you are giving birth in a hospital: you NEED to ask your provider these questions before you deliver. You can even use these questions for an interview before hiring one! You should have a good understanding of how your provider will proceed in case of emergency and how they prefer to use different interventions.

in the hospital setting especially, mommas tend to end up laying in a bed for most of their labor. if this is the most comfortable position for you: great! But there are soo many benefits to staying upright for as long as possible! It’s even possible to stay upright if you’ve had an epidural. and thats why doulas rock: we can teach you all the things you can do / say no to in the delivery space! check out these stats:
