My first book, The Energy of Anxiety. I wrote mainly for people who were unable to do one-to-one therapy. However, many people (including clients) have told me that they find it a useful book to dip into when they need to. Structure in concise chapters.

"Great read"
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 June 2019

"This book offers sound, practical advice that applies to most of us. I particularly like the way the author explains how not to take on other people’s stuff and how we fall into negative traps. It explains, in an easy to understand way, how people end up in anxious states and is full of options on how to take back charge of your life.

Having read the book, I am still working through the exercises but already feel the benefit. It’s refreshing to be able to apply 'easy to use techniques' and to have a self help guide that isn’t full or jargon or long winded explanations. An essential guide for anyone’s bookshelf."

Finding Calm - The Hidden Costs of Stress & The Path to Healing

Stress is a silent thief. It creeps into our lives, stealing joy, clarity, and health. Over time, it can impact our physical well-being, mindset, and relationships. When ignored, stress can disrupt our lives, making us feel overwhelmed and powerless. Addressing stress is fundamental, not just to our well-being, but to our quality of life.

Acute and chronic stress can impact us in many ways. For example, sleep is often affected. Moreover, anxiety and depression are common responses to stress. Additionally, unhelpful coping mechanisms can be extremely damaging to our mental and physical well-being.

Importance of Addressing Stress

Research shows that chronic stress can lead to serious health issues. Moreover, stress influences our behaviour, transforming us into short-tempered individuals. Furthermore, it can strain relationships, creating distance and misunderstandings. Hence, work becomes a burden, draining us of motivation and creativity.

Consider these helpful tips:

1. Mindful Practices: These can be varied. Some examples of mindful exercises and practices are tai chi, walking (without distraction of phones etc), engaging in music, colouring or creative activities. This helps ground you in the present moment.

2. Establish Boundaries: Saying no to additional responsibilities can create space for self-care.

The Impact of Bullying: Rebuilding Confidence through Hypnotherapy

The effects of bullying spreads far and wide amongst different age, cultures and environments. Whether at home, in school, in social clubs, or the workplace, its impact is profound. Therefore, understanding this can help us foster a more supportive atmosphere for everyone.

The Effects of Bullying in Different Settings

In the home, a child may experience emotional abuse from a sibling or even a parent. Significantly, this type of bullying can leave deep emotional scars. Children often feel isolated and misunderstood, leading to long-term effects on their self-esteem.

At school, bullying is rampant. Bullying by peers can range from name-calling to physical harassment. Consequently, many students dread attending school, fearing another encounter with their bullies. Sadly, this leads to a decline in academic performance and confidence.

Social clubs, meant for enjoyment and friendship, can also harbour bullies. A member might undermine another's achievements or spread gossip. Accordingly, such actions create a toxic environment, pushing individuals to withdraw from social interactions.

The workplace is not immune either. Bullying behaviour by colleagues or managers can lead to anxiety, stress, and fear. As a result, employees may feel trapped in an environment that stifles their growth and potential. This ultimately affects productivity and job satisfaction.

Overcoming Fear of Success

Success is often seen as a beacon of hope. However, many individuals struggle with it. The fear of success is a common yet misunderstood obstacle. This blog post explores the reasons behind this fear and how to overcome it.

The fear of success can arise from various factors. Firstly, many people are apprehensive about changes in their circumstances. Success may bring new responsibilities that feel overwhelming. This can lead to a desire to stay in the comfort zone.

Additionally, being the centre of attention can be daunting. For some, success means increased visibility and scrutiny. Feeling exposed can trigger anxiety and self-doubt. Consequently, individuals might sabotage their efforts to avoid this discomfort.

Another key reason is the belief system ingrained in childhood. If you grew up in an environment where success was viewed negatively, this thinking can linger. These limiting beliefs create mental blocks. As a result, they can prevent you from pursuing your goals.

Fear of judgement also plays a significant role. You may worry about how others perceive your achievements. Therefore, you might hold back to avoid criticism or jealousy.

Embracing Your Inner Light: A Journey to Restored Self-Esteem

Self-esteem is the foundation of how we perceive ourselves. It’s how we value our worth. Confidence, however, is about believing in our abilities. While they often coexist, one can falter without the other.

Social Anxiety Help: Build Social Skills and Find Your Voice

Social anxiety can feel like an invisible weight. Hence, every social gathering may feel like navigating a minefield. Your heart races, palms sweat, and the fear of judgement looms large. Additionally, you may wonder, “What will they think of me?” In these moments, it’s easy to retreat into silence, where the comfort of isolation feels safer than the vulnerability of connection. Importantly, feeling more confident socially is about addressing underlying causes and building your social skills.

Many factors contribute to social anxiety. Significantly, past experiences, such as bullying or rejection, can leave lasting scars. Additionally, genetic predispositions and environmental influences may also play a role. The truth is, you are not alone in your struggle. Many individuals face similar feelings, and it’s a positive step to seek help.

Building Social Skills

There is hope for a brighter future. Indeed, overcoming social anxiety and building social skills is possible. Importantly, the path begins with small, manageable steps. Here are a few tips to help you feel more at ease when socialising:

1. Practice Deep Breathing: Inhale deeply for a count of four, hold for four, and exhale for four. This simple technique calms your mind.

2. Start Small: Attend smaller gatherings where you feel more comfortable. Gradually increase the size of the social settings as you build confidence.

3. Focus on Others: Shift your attention from yourself to those around you. Ask open-ended questions and listen actively. (An open-ended question cannot be answered with a simple "yes" or "no" and instead requires a more detailed, descriptive answer.)

4. Visualise Success: Before heading into a social event, picture yourself enjoying the experience. Positive imagery can shift your mindset.

Conquering Enclosed Spaces - Overcoming Claustrophobia

Claustrophobia, a fear that grips the heart and constricts the mind, can feel like an invisible cage. For those who struggle with this fear, the walls of a room can seem to close in, stifling breath and hope. Imagine standing in an elevator, feeling the weight of every second as the doors remain shut. Moreover, the quiet thrum of machinery becomes a painful reminder of entrapment. Overcoming claustrophobia starts with understanding the cause.

Why Does Claustrophobia Happen?

Claustrophobia can stem from various triggers. Traumatic experiences, such as being trapped or confined, often lay the groundwork. Past anxieties, even from childhood, can resurface during tight situations. Stressful life events can further fuel this fear, making everyday scenarios feel insurmountable.

You might not know the reason that you experience claustrophobia. However, as it is addressed through specific treatments, causes can surface.

If you’re finding it hard to breathe when in a confined space, know you’re not alone. Many have walked this path, feeling the same fear and isolation. Yet, there is hope. Indeed, you can reclaim your life by understanding your fears and learning to manage them.

Here are a few tips to help you cope:

1. Breathe Deeply: Focus on your breath. Breathe deeply into your abdomen. Inhale slowly through your nose and exhale through your mouth. This helps to calm your nervous system.

2. Visualise Safe Spaces: When feeling trapped, imagine a place where you feel completely safe and relaxed. Let this image ground you.

3. Gradual Exposure: Start by facing your fear in small doses. Explore spaces of reduced size when you feel ready. Thereby, gradually increasing exposure.

4. Seek Support: If you have trired the above with no or limited success, then it could be time to address through a professional.

Conquer Public Speaking Anxiety: Unleash Your True Voice

Public speaking anxiety creates a tight knot in your stomach or a dryness in your throat. Additionally, you feel a rush of panic wash over you as you stand in front of an audience. Furthermore, the room closes in, your heart races, and your mind goes blank. Many people experience these overwhelming feelings, but knowing this makes it no easier to deal with when the spotlight is on you.

But why does this happen? Fear of judgment, perfectionism, and past negative experiences can trigger this anxiety. Perhaps, you fear sounding foolish, or you worry about being unprepared. Importantly, each of these anxieties can stem from deeper issues, such as low self-esteem or traumatic events in your past. Similarly, if you have been put down or bullied, these can have a detrimental impact on your confidence. Public speaking is one of the most common fears people have. Hence, most people will avoid having to speak in public but for others, work or other life commitments mean you have to face it. Therefore, far better to address the anxiety than suffer.

Addressing Public Speaking Anxiety

For some, public speaking anxiety gets worse over time. However, you can overcome this hurdle! With the right tools and mindset, you can turn your anxiety into confidence. Remember, even the best speakers started somewhere.

Here are a few essential tips to ease your nerves: [dt_gap height="10" /]

1. Practice: Rehearse your speech multiple times. Familiarity breeds confidence.
2. Breathe: Take slow, deep breaths before speaking. This calms your mind and body.
3. Engage with Your Audience: Make eye contact and smile. It creates a connection and makes you feel less isolated.
4. Normalise the Audience: Remember that your audience all have insecurities and imperfections. You are probably doing something that many of them are not brave enough to do.

When the Body Speaks: How Emotions Show Up as Physical Symptoms

Have you ever noticed how your body seems to “speak” when life feels overwhelming? What if most of our physical symptoms were signs of emotional unrest, unhealed trauma and stress?

A tight chest before a difficult conversation, a tense jaw during stress, a heavy stomach when you’re anxious. These aren’t coincidences. They are messages from your body, guiding you toward what needs attention and care. What if these symptoms went deeper into health issues?

Taking a holistic approach, we understand that the mind and body are not separate. Every thought, emotion, and belief creates a ripple through the nervous system, hormones, and muscles. Therefore, when emotions are unprocessed — grief, anger, fear, or guilt — they often look for expression through the body. Importantly, it’s the body’s way of saying, "please listen to me".

Healing the Physical Symptoms By Addressing Causes

Many clients come to me after trying every possible medical route, along with other therapies with little or no success. Often met by unsympathic professionals who have little understanding of them as a person. Through a greater mind - body understanding they discover that their symptoms ease when they finally address the emotional layer beneath.

Through hypnotherapy, we gently access the subconscious mind. This is where these emotional memories and patterns are stored. Hence, in this calm, receptive state, the body feels safe enough to release what it has been holding on to. When we start to ask the right questions, we uncover what lies beneath our health issues. However, as part of this process, we need to step away from being a society that wants quick fixes. Instead, we should take time for ourselves and what is really important in life.

Treating IBS - A Holistic Approach

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) can feel like an invisible weight, pressing down on those who suffer from it. Moreover, it often leaves individuals feeling isolated, anxious, embarrassed and frustrated. How do you explain the urgency to use the loo to friends or family? Additionally, the pain can be intolerable. The unpredictability of IBS can turn everyday outings into stressful events. Treating IBS holistically means addressing the mind-body connection.

Personally, I have been working with the connection between mind and body for over 10 years, specifically trained in this area to utilise our innate ability to heal, by working through emotional and stress causes to health issues. Our body tells a story, our story.

You may say "my health issue is hereditary" and that may be the case. The META model of health is about understanding that we may have pre-cursers to certain health issues, but we may or may not activate those. Think of those hereditary health conditions as buttons. We might press those buttons due to life experiences, or we may not. So 'yes', we might be more prone to some conditions but we can help ourselves keep those conditions inactive in many cases by addressing causes and, of course, living as healthy a life as possible.

The reasons behind IBS can be complex. From dietary triggers to stress and emotional turmoil, various factors can contribute to this condition. Many people find themselves caught in a cycle of discomfort, wondering why their own bodies seem to betray them. Accordingly, It’s like a never-ending battle where you lose your sense of control.

Holistic Healing - The Path to Wholeness

In our modern world, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the pressures of daily life. Many find themselves grappling with stress, anxiety and various physical ailments that seem to pile on top of one another. At such times, it's crucial to appreciate the importance of holistic healing. By nurturing the body, mind and soul, we can make significant positive changes in our lives. By addressing issues in a way that ensures we feel safe, we trigger the mind and body's natural healing abilities.

Understanding Holistic Healing

Holistic healing emphasises the interconnectedness of all aspects of our being. It recognises that our physical health, mental clarity and emotional well-being are inherently linked. When we focus solely on one area of our health, we often overlook the crucial connections that contribute to overall wellness.

Physical Healing: A Foundation of Well-Being

To begin, consider the role of physical health in our overall well-being. It is essential to treat the body with care as physical symptoms often arise from underlying emotional or mental states. For example, stress can manifest as chronic pain, fatigue or digestive issues. By addressing these issues through healthy lifestyle choices. These may include nutrition, exercise and rest, we can create a solid foundation for healing.

Moreover, engaging in regular physical activity not only boosts physical health but also releases endorphins. Significantly, this helps to improve our mood. Similarly, nourishing our bodies with wholesome foods contributes to overall vitality and energy.
