One of the founding aims of the Guernsey WRVS (now the Guernsey Voluntary Service or GVS) was to ensure the well being of older people in the Bailiwick. At first this was done through Darby and Joan clubs, home visiting and outings. We now run two Social Clubs in Guernsey - the Jubilee Social Club in St Sampsons and the Russels Social Club in St. GVS runs Trolley shop at Le Grand Courtil. The Jubilee House acts as the headquarters for the charity and is where you will find Jubilee Social Club for older people. In 1997 GVS took over the running of the Russels Day Centre, now called Social Club, at Les Cotils, St Peter Port from the then Department of Health. The Russels is now based at Le Grand Courtil. Members of the Social Clubs pay a small sum to attend, which is subsidised by the GVS. We own and maintain three minibuses to help transport clients to and from both clubs
GVS also delivers the Meals on Wheels service in Guernsey. Approximately 25,000 meals are delivered by the GVS every year in Guernsey using our four dedicated cars. The service is available 6 days a week – Monday to Saturday and to receive Meals on Wheels one must be referred to the GVS by a medical professional. The facility is available to all the housebound who need it, not just older people. Clients pay a small charge for the Meals on Wheels service. We are also involved in:
Blood donor calling at the PEH,
a trolley shop at Le Grand Courtil, and provides a rest tent at the West Show. If you, or someone you know, would like to find out more information about any of our services please contact us as follows:
