Taking your HIV medication (ARVs) as prescribed, will help you to keep your viral load suppressed (or undetected).
Viral load suppression means there is very little chance of you transmitting HIV to your s*x partners.

We begin a 2-day follow up meeting & discussions with clinicians/prescribers, and key stakeholders on gender-based violence, in Accra, today.
Participants are from the Central, Eastern, Greater Accra, Volta and Oti regions of Ghana.
We have our Community Peer Paralegals, Pro bono lawyers, and reps from the Ghana AIDS Commission also participating.

In 2022, CHAG undertook a baseline survey on the prevalence of affecting PLHIV/TB due to their conditions. In addition, two rounds of Community-Led Monitoring have been held in selected health facilities across the country.

The findings of the baseline surveys will be disseminated at this meeting.

A deliverable from this meeting would be a draft action plan on practical steps required to guarantee medicolegal support services for GBV victims, particularly, persons living with HIT/TB.

Next week, we will engage participants from the Ashanti, Bono, Bono East, Northern, Savannah, Upper East and Upper West Regions.

Today is !
It is a day set aside to bring to the fore the negative attitudes, beliefs, and discrimination that people living with HIV (PLHIV) may experience due to their status.
Any form of stigma against PLHIVs is a violation of their human rights.
HIV stigma is fueled by misperception and causes personal and public detriment including social exclusion, loss of employment, housing insecurity, health inequities, and strained relationships. HIV stigma creates a barrier to prevention, treatment, and care.
We must work together to end HIV stigma NOW!

“When he found out that I was HIV-positive he locked up my shop and gave the keys to his elder brother’s wife to operate and said I should not go near it again. He did not want anything to do with me or our child, and he even forbade me from going close to his brother’s children.”

The above statement was made by a respondent of the study 👇🏾. A 26 year-old woman whose access to ART services were impeded and resulted in devastating effects on her physical and psychological well being.

Yesterday, we held a meeting with partners, to validate findings from a baseline study that bordered on barriers and facilitators of PLHIV access to Gender-based violence and Intimate Partner violence services.
Some questions that were considered for the study included:
1️⃣ What is the overall prevalence of IPV among PLHIV in Ghana
2️⃣ What are society, community, and people's attitudes towards IPV, and how do the attitudes and norms influence the acceptance of different forms of domestic violence against PLHIV in Ghana?

The study identified these barriers to PLHIV accessing IPV/GBV services:
1️⃣ socio-cultural factors that normalise IPV
2️⃣ economic reasons that deter victims from reporting IPV events
3️⃣ weak state legal support mechanisms
4️⃣ deep-seated stigmatisation & misunderstanding of the mode of transmission of HIV

The study identified the following facilitators to PLHIV accessing IPV/GBV services:
1️⃣ availability of paralegals across ART centers
2️⃣ availability of pro bono legal services
3️⃣ awareness of & proximity of DOVVSU (including CHRAJ, Legal Aid)
4️⃣ conducive behaviour of officials in charge of above institutions
5️⃣ supportive familial and social ties enabling factors to accessing services and reaching out for support in time of abuse

Participants had an interesting time discussing the findings, especially stories from interviewees of the study, who were both perpetrators and victims.
Cultural differences and obligations, resourcing institutions to better serve victims, condom use among PLHIV were discussed.
The consultant and her team made some policy recommendations based on the study.

Yesterday, our team held a review meeting to discuss the just ended HIV Supportive supervision exercise, that was carried out across the country.
This exercise was to serve as a medium to provide on-the-job practical support for all community cadres (Models of Hope, Mentor Mothers, and CATS) as well as their supervisors (ART and ANC in-charges).
The objectives of the exercise were to:
1️⃣ Verify/Review cadres report (hardcopies – Enrolment Forms; Activity Registers and electronic copies – Activity Reports on REDCap)
2️⃣ Provide corrective and constructive feedback on findings and agree on timelines to rectify identified gaps
3️⃣ Share and/or debrief Directors of Health Services on findings from the visits for further actions and/or support
