MMI101: The trilogic approach to Mental Illness.
The aetiology/causative factors of mental disorders are multifaceted, involving complex interactions between a number of factors. The composite interactivity between the host (genetics), agent (drugs) and environmental factors (stress) largely leads to mental health disorders.
Let’s talk about the host factors today.
Hosts are persons with mental health disorders. The host factors are characteristics of a person that makes him or her susceptible to or resistant to a mental health condition. They comprise of all features of an individual making them liable to move to the severe symptoms of mental illness of the mental health spectrum. The characteristics may include genetic makeup of the person, age, s*x, constitution-physique (pyknic, asthenic, athletic), premorbid personality (schizoid, paranoid). Host factors are also known as The predisposing factors.
