New Year health tips
Start the new year off by improving your overall health and wellness with these practical tips from the World Health Organization.

Eat a healthy diet. Eat a combination of different food groups, including fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts and whole grains. Adults should eat at least five portions (400 grams) of fruit and vegetables per day.

Consume less salt and sugar. Reduce your salt intake to five grams per day, about one teaspoon, and reduce your sugar intake to 50 grams or 12 teaspoons for an adult.
Reduce your intake of harmful fats. Focus on good fats like fish, avocado, nuts, coconut oil, cream and cheese, and limit trans (bad) fats found in baked and fried foods, prepackaged snacks and foods, and cooking oils and spreads.
Avoid drinking too much alcohol. This helps lower your risk of cancer, heart disease, liver cirrhosis and depression.
Don’t smoke or quit smoking. It’s never too late to quit.
Be active. Adults should get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity each week.
Check your blood pressure regularly. If left uncontrolled, high blood pressure, or hypertension, can lead to heart, brain, kidney and other diseases.
Get tested. Get screened for HIV, HPV, hepatitis B, s*xually-transmitted infections (STIs) and tuberculosis.
Get vaccinated. Build protection against diseases like cervical cancer, cholera, diphtheria, hepatitis B, influenza, measles, mumps, pneumonia, polio, rabies, rubella, tetanus, typhoid and yellow fever.
Practice safe s*x. Help prevent HIV and other infections.
Cover your coughs and sneezes. Protect those around you from contagious infections and viruses.
Prevent mosquito bites. Protect yourself while outdoors.
Get preventive health screenings. As you age, schedule mammograms, prostate screenings, skin cancer screening, bone density scans and colonoscopies.
Drink only safe water. Avoid diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, hepatitis A, typhoid and polio.
Breastfeed your baby for at least the first six months. Aside from being beneficial to babies, breastfeeding is also good for the mother as it reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancer, type II diabetes, and postpartum depression.
Talk to someone you trust when you are feeling down.
Take antibiotics only as prescribed.
Lock up your prescription medication. And, dispose of expired or unused medication properly.
Clean your hands properly and often. Clean hands can prevent the spread of infectious illnesses.
Prepare your food correctly. (1) keep clean, (2) separate raw and cooked, (3) cook thoroughly, (4) keep food at safe temperatures and (5) use safe water and raw materials.
Get regular checkups. .

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away”No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. Matthew 34:35

*EATING FRUITS*

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths.

It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat the fruits.

*What is the correct way of eating fruits?*

*IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS!*

*FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH:*

*If you eat fruits on empty stomach, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.*

*FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD.*

Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit.

*The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so due to the bread taken before the fruit.*

*In the meantime the whole meal of bread & fruit rots and ferments and turns to acid.*

The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.

*So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals!*

You have heard people complaining :
Every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc.. etc..

*Actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach.*

The fruit mixes with the putrefying of other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat !

*Greying hair, balding, nervous outburst and dark circles under the eyes all these will NOT happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach.*

*There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter.*

If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the SECRET of beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight.

When you need to drink fruit juice - drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans, packs or bottles.

*Don't even drink juice that has been heated up.*

*Don't eat cooked fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all.*

You only get its taste.
Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice.

If you should drink the fresh fruit juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it.

You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse or detoxify your body.

Just eat fruits and drink fresh fruit juice throughout the 3 days.

And you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look !

*KIWI fruit:*
Tiny but mighty.
This is a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

*APPLE:*
An apple a day keeps the doctor away?
Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.

*STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit:*
Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging and free radicals.

*ORANGE: Sweetest medicine.*
Taking 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessens the risk of colon cancer.

*WATERMELON:*
Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system.

They are also a key source of lycopene the cancer fighting oxidant.
Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

*GUAVA & PAPAYA:*
Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content.

Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation.

Papaya is rich in carotene; this is good for your eyes.

*Drinking COLD water or drinks after a meal = CANCER.*

Can you believe this ?

For those who like to drink cold water or cold drinks, this article is applicable to you.

It is not nice to have a cup of cold water or cold drinks after a meal.

However, the cold or drinks will solidify the oily stuff that you have just eaten.

It will slow down the digestion.

Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food.

It will line the intestine.

*Very soon, this will turn into FATS and lead to CANCER!*

*It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.*

*Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know the better chance we could survive.*

UMBILICAL HERNIA IN NEWBORNS

🔸This is an abnormal bulge that can be seen or felt at the umbilicus( belly button).
• It develops when a portion of the lining of the abdomen, part of the intestines and or fluid from the abdomen comes through the muscles of the abdominal wall.

🔸Umbilical hernia is common occurring in 10 -20 percent of all children.

🔸 When the cord falls off, umbilical hernia may manifest after the age of two weeks or later.

🔸 Low birth weight and premature infants are more likely to have an umbilical hernia .

🔸 Boys and girls are equally affected.

CAUSES

✔️ During the development of the foetus in pregnancy, there is a small opening in the muscles of the abdomen that allows the passage of umbilical cord connecting both mother and baby.

✔️The opening in the abdominal muscles closes as the baby grows after birth.

✔️ Sometimes, however the the muscles do not meet and grow together completely and a small opening remains .

✔️ This opening is called umbilical hernia.

SIGNS & SYMPTOMS

✔️ It appears as a bulge or swelling in the belly button area.

✔️ The swelling may become more visible and noticeable when baby cries , and may become smaller or disappear when baby is quite.

✔️ If a physician gently pushes on the bulge when a child is lying down and calm, it will usually get smaller or go back into the abdomen.

DIAGNOSIS
✔️ Physical examination by a physician can diagnose an umbilical hernia and can also determine if there are any abdominal contents caught in the hernia sac.

TREATMENT

☑️ Many umbilical hernias close spontaneously within 6 months to 3 years of the baby’s life.

☑️ If closure does not occur by this time, surgical repair is usually advised .

☑️ In younger children if hernia is very large, surgical repair may be recommended.

💉 If there are any associated conditions like intracranial abdominal pressure like excessive crying, constipation , persistent cough etc it should be detected early for management.

💉Once the hernia is closed, it’s unlikely that it will reoccur . However , the risk of recurrence is increased in patients who have wound infections after surgery.

💉 In most cases , these hernias don’t cause any problem and they often go away on their own over time.

❌ Application of coin and bandage over the hernia is not recommended. As it may further weaken the anterior abdominal wall.
