🎄 Merry Christmas and a happy new year, PMHGh Family! 🎄

During this special season , we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. A reminder that hope can be born even in the darkest moments. As pharmacists working in mental health, we see daily how much hope, compassion, and understanding can transform lives. May the peace and light of Christ bring comfort to troubled minds, strength to weary hearts, and renewed passion for the important work we do.

As we look forward to 2026, may it be a year of growth, impact, and greater advocacy for mental health in Ghana and beyond. May we rise higher as professionals, support one another better, and continue to be voices of healing and hope.

Thank you all for your dedication and service. Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful Christmas and a fulfilling, successful New Year ahead.

On behalf of my executives and the management team, we wish you all
✨ Merry Christmas and best wishes for a brighter 2026! ✨

KGL Eve Medical Centre Commissioned at KNUST: A New Era for Mental, Women’s, and General Healthcare in Ghana

This report is brought to the public courtesy of Pharmacists in Mental Health Ghana (PMHGh), an organisation dedicated to advancing mental health awareness, pharmaceutical care, and wellness across Ghana

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has become home to a transformative addition to Ghana’s healthcare landscape with the commissioning of the KGL Eve Medical Centre at the KNUST Medical Village in Boadi, Kumasi. The state-of-the-art facility, inaugurated on 9th December 2025, represents a major step forward in mental-health and women-centred healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region and across Ghana.

The ultramodern centre was officially opened by Ghana’s Vice-President, H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, together with Lady Julia Osei Tutu, patron of the Eve Medical Foundation. The project is fully funded by the KGL Foundation, reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to advancing accessible, inclusive, and holistic healthcare services for Ghanaians.

A Purpose-Built Centre for Holistic Care

The KGL Eve Medical Centre is designed to provide a wide spectrum of services, integrating mental-health support, general medical care, diagnostics, wellness therapy, and pharmacy services under one roof. The facility includes:
• Psychiatric consultation rooms
• Therapy and counselling suites
• In-patient wards
• Diagnostic and laboratory units
• Rehabilitation and wellness spaces
• A fully stocked pharmacy
• Administrative and clinical offices

By focusing on areas often underserved, especially mental-health and women’s health, the centre aims to close critical gaps within Ghana’s healthcare system.

Supporting Women, Children, and the Broader Community

A core vision of the project is to improve health access for women and children, who frequently face challenges in obtaining timely mental-health and specialized medical support. The centre will serve:
• The entire KNUST community (students, staff, and dependents)
• Residents of Boadi and surrounding areas
• The wider Ashanti Region
• Patients from across Ghana seeking specialised mental-health or women’s health services

The establishment of such a facility aligns with continental efforts to strengthen mental-health systems in Africa, where stigma, underfunding, and limited infrastructure have historically hindered community well-being. Ghana, like many African states, is gradually transitioning toward more comprehensive mental-health support, and the KGL Eve Medical Centre is a significant milestone along that path.

Addressing a National and Continental Healthcare Gap

Mental-health challenges such as depression, anxiety, stress, and trauma have become increasingly pressing concerns in modern African societies, especially among youth and women. Yet these conditions often go untreated due to:
• Stigma
• Limited number of psychiatric facilities
• Scarcity of trained professionals
• Financial barriers
• Cultural misconceptions

Facilities like the KGL Eve Medical Centre provide an essential pivot toward community-friendly, stigma-free, and integrated mental-health care in Ghana. By combining general healthcare with mental-health services, the centre encourages patients to seek help without feeling isolated or labelled.

A Vision Aligned with Ghana’s National Development Goals

The successful commissioning of the centre also advances Ghana’s broader development agenda, which prioritizes:
• Improved mental-health infrastructure
• Expansion of quality healthcare facilities
• Wellness promotion for students, workers, and families
• Reduction of health inequalities across regions
• Support for women’s and children’s healthcare

Furthermore, its presence on the KNUST landscape enhances opportunities for clinical training, interdisciplinary research, and health innovation, strengthening the university’s role as a leading centre of knowledge production in Africa.

As Pharmacists in Mental Health Ghana and mental health advocates, we have to be empathetic and educate our clients and patients. It takes a lot of time and energy to do so, hoping that the family will understand the nature of it. Spiritual illness is the default reasoning even from very literate people. So let’s keep on educating them without being weary - Dr. Richmond Adusa-Poku

Taking antibiotics exactly as prescribed is crucial to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR) because it ensures all harmful bacteria are killed, preventing any survivors from developing resistance. Conversely, misusing antibiotics by not finishing the full course, taking them for viral infections like colds, or using them for other people's prescriptions contributes to resistance, making future infections harder to treat.

AMR is now one of the world’s top 10 health threats. In Ghana alone, over 5,900 lives were lost directly to AMR in 2019, with more than 25,000 associated deaths.

Together, we must act.
