Divine Peace Maternity Home , along with partners, offered free hepatitis B screening for commercial motorcycle (Pragia) riders at Oyibi Junction in Accra, Ghana, on July 28, 2023.
More than 205 people benefitted from the event.
Divine Peace Maternity Home was joined by Bright Beginnings International Foundation and Precious Hearts Montessori.
Divine Peace operated under this year's World Hepatitis Day theme: βOne Life, One Liver,β. This health screening highlighted the importance of the liver for a healthy life, and the need to scale up viral hepatitis prevention, testing and treatment to optimize liver health, prevent liver disease, and achieve the 2030 hepatitis elimination goals.
Malaria, typhoid, blood level, BMI, and blood pressure level were the tests performed in addition to the Hepatitis B sensitization and screening. ITNs were distributed to those who agreed to receive them.
Abaloo Obed, the facility's administrator, noted the event's impressive attendance.
βI am really glad to see both young and old, especially women, come for the screening. The screening was primarily meant for the 'Pragia' riders, but it is a joy to see all use this opportunity to get checked. Paying attention to our health is important for our pockets and development.β
He also told journalists that the free screening project was aimed at educating people about Hepatitis B and also helping curb it.
He thanked his team from Divine Peace Maternity Home and the volunteers from Precious Hearts Montessori for making the event successful.
He promised to carry out more health screening projects within the Kpone Katamanso Municipality in 2024.
