How to perform Subcutaneous injection

Subcutaneous injection is a method of administering medication or vaccines under the skin, but not into the muscle. This technique is commonly used in poultry farming and livestock breeding for vaccinations and other treatments.

This condition you see is called Prolapse.
It is found specifically in laying hens, occurs when the oviduct or cloaca protrudes outside the vent due to excessive straining or muscle weakness. This condition can be serious and potentially life-threatening if left untreated.

Causes of Prolapse:

- Nutritional Deficiencies
- Overweight or Underweight Birds
- Reproductive Age: Prolapse often occurs at peak egg production periods when the demand on the bird's metabolism is high(talk more about it)
- Double-Yolked Eggs
- High Light Intensity

Treatment:

The best solution is prevention, talk to us before you start your breeding project so that we give you a guide to prevent issues like this. However if you are already facing this then these are a few suggestions:

- Isolate Affected Birds: Separate the bird from the flock to prevent further damage.
- Clean and Lubricate: Gently clean the pr*****ed tissue with Vetericyn or a similar product, and apply a water-based lubricant.
- Push Back Prolapse: Carefully push the tissue back into place, if possible.
- Antibiotics and Anti-Inflammatory Medication*: Consult a veterinarian for further treatment.
- Balanced Feed Rations: Ensure sufficient calcium and nutrients in the diet.
