Shai-Osudoku District Hospital climaxed its month-long Breast Cancer Awareness with a mass breast cancer screening, blood donation exercise, and a cooking competition among women at the Dodowa Market on 30th October 2025. This was in partnership with MYO Global, an all-inclusive, international, and non-profit organisation that helps to shape and build the desired future through shared responsibility. The program was under the theme “Buu o forfor,” which means “respect your breast.”
The event saw the participation of the Regional Minister of Greater Accra, who is also the MP for Shai-Osudoku, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, as well as the DCE, Hon. Ignatious Godfred Dordoe, and the staff of Shai-Osudoku District Health Directorate. In her remarks, the Honourable Minister encouraged all the women in the market to take the screening programmes seriously and emphasised the importance of early detection, which saves lives.
Following the Minister’s address, Madam Janet Baidoo, a breast cancer survivor, shared her experience from diagnosis through treatment. She encouraged those present to take advantage of the screening, spoke against the stigmatisation of people living with breast cancer, and highlighted the need for support from families, communities, and the government.
The Acting Medical Superintendent of the Shai-Osudoku District Hospital, Dr Alexander Adjei, spoke about the importance of continuous medical advocacy and community screening to help detect non-communicable diseases before they become symptomatic. He encouraged the community to partner with the Hospital on this campaign and thanked all the stakeholders for making this programme a success.
