The Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate on Friday, 24th April 2026, marked World Malaria Day under the theme: "Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must."

Hosted at the Church of Pentecost, Dansoman District, the event brought together municipal leadership, health officials, sponsors, and community members united in the fight against malaria.

The keynote address by the Regional Director of Health Service, Dr. Robert Amesiya, reinforced the need for sustained action, community engagement, and strong partnerships.

Solidarity messages from the Infanta Malaria Prevention Foundation and Kasapreko PLC demonstrated that the private sector stood firmly with the fight against malaria.

The Chairman for the occasion, Rev. Kweku Addo, MP for Ablekuma West, in his closing remarks reiterated the urgency of the theme, calling on all stakeholders to intensify efforts in order to achieve a malaria-free society.

The Core Management Team and Heads of Units of the Ga North Municipal Hospital on Thursday, April 9, 2026, underwent a one-day training in leadership and management, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership at all levels of care within the facility.

The training, held at Sunlodge Hotel, was facilitated by Dr. William Okyere Frempong and his team. Sessions were highly interactive, drawing on practical insights relevant to hospital management and service delivery.

The exercise is expected to translate into improved coordination, better decision-making, and ultimately, a higher standard of care for patients accessing services at the facility.

Representatives from the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) Ghana paid a visit to the Regional Director, Dr. Robert Amesiya, to brief him on the progress of their sickle cell project, which has been running in Ghana for the past year.

CHAI is currently in the middle of a three-day training programme bringing together healthcare workers of various cadres from Tema General Hospital, PML, Ashaiman Municipal Hospital, Weija Gbawe Municipal Hospital, and LEKMA Hospital.

The training covers screening, diagnosis, and case management of sickle cell disease — equipping frontline staff with the knowledge and skills to identify and manage the condition more effectively at the facility level.

Beyond the training, CHAI has also provided logistics and commodities to the participating facilities through the Regional Medical Stores, ensuring that the teams being trained have what they need to put that training to practical use.

The 5S-KAIZEN project team, accompanied by national facilitators from the Ghana Health Service headquarters, paid a courtesy call on the Regional Director, Dr. Robert Amesiya. The visit was to seek his support and blessings ahead of the team's planned 4th external Monitoring and Supportive Supervision (M&SSV) visit to project implementing facilities in the Ga South and Ningo Prampram Municipalities and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge.

The 5S-KAIZEN project is a collaboration between the Ghana Health Service and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), designed to improve the quality of care for mothers, newborns, and children at both community and facility levels.

The approach, rooted in the 5S-KAIZEN-TQM methodology, focuses on bringing systematic, people-centred improvements to health facility management and service delivery, with the goal of translating better-organised, better-run facilities into better health outcomes for the people they serve.
