In a room filled with experience, honesty, and a shared sense of purpose, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund engaged with the Ghana Medical Association(GMA) in their office at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. The Association has shown us support from the very beginning, being one of our very first donors when this journey began in April last year.

We sat around the table together with their senior management team this morning and had a deeply engaging conversation to share our work, discuss honest questions, and listen closely to insights shaped by their years on the frontlines of healthcare in Ghana. It was truly a beautiful exchange.

We could really sense the genuine care in the room through the thoughtful concerns, encouraging feedback and the strong willingness to contribute meaningfully to the work of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund. The GMA, representing a community of over 10,000 doctors and forming a backbone of healthcare delivery in Ghana, showed up fully, aiding us to expand our approach as we prepare for rollout on the 1st of April.

By the end of the session, there was a clear sense of alignment. We left the meeting, inspired and more determined to create a Fund that is open, reliable and truly puts patients and healthcare professionals first.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the President of the Ghana Medical Association, Prof. Dr (Med) Ernest Yorke, his Vice President Dr (Med) Arko Akoto-Ampaw, and the entire leadership team for their time, openness, and collaborative spirit.

This is how we build; Together.

For years, patients battling kidney disease in the Bono-East Region had no choice but to travel long distances for dialysis, often at great financial and emotional cost. Now, that story has changed. Courtesy, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, two new dialysis machines are in that region now. That is the impact we are making.

Two new dialysis machines delivered by the Ghana Medical Trust Fund to Sunyani Teaching Hospital are bringing urgent relief to patients in the Bono Region, especially those battling infectious diseases alongside kidney complications.

Previously limited by just three machines, many patients were forced to travel long distances multiple times a week for life-saving care. With this intervention, supported by HealthTeach Ghana, patients can now access treatment closer to home; reducing both physical and financial strain.

The donation reflects the Fund’s mission to remove barriers to critical healthcare, restore dignity to patients, and bring hope to families, as it continues rolling out life-saving support across the country.

A moment of pure joy unfolded at Holy Family Hospital - Techiman, as the Ghana Medical Trust Fund delivered the first-ever dialysis machines to the Bono East Region.

For years, patients battling kidney disease had no choice but to travel long distances for dialysis, often at great financial and emotional cost. Today, that story begins to change.

Two brand-new dialysis machines, generously donated by HealthTech Ghana Limited, were presented by the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Obuobia Darko-Opoku; making it possible for patients to receive life-saving care closer to home.

“Since you started work, one thing I have observed is that when you promise, you deliver.” Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, Bono Regional Minister.

Those words captured a moment of encouragement for us at the Ghana Medical Trust Fund as we delivered two dialysis machines to the Sunyani Teaching Hospital. These machines will support patients with infectious diseases who also require renal care.

Until now, the hospital relied on only three dialysis machines, leaving many patients with no option but to travel long distances, often several times a week, just to receive dialysis.

When we were briefed about the situation during our needs assessment, we knew we had to act. With support from HealthTech Ghana Limited, which donated six dialysis machines to the Fund, we were able to respond quickly and ensure that patients in the Bono Region can now access life-saving dialysis treatment closer to home.

This donation goes beyond simply providing equipment; it is about removing barriers that prevent Ghanaians from accessing essential healthcare. And this is only the beginning as we continue our work to heal Ghana, one life at a time

Every nation is defined by what it chooses to protect. For Ghana, our greatest treasure is our people.

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund was created from a simple belief, that no Ghanaian should lose their life simply because they cannot afford specialised medical care.

Guided by compassion, transparency, and a deep sense of national responsibility, we are strengthening our hospitals, supporting patients, and expanding access to life-saving treatment across the country.

The ongoing “Heal Ghana Month” campaign by the Ghana Medical Trust Fund has received a major boost, this time from the Ghana Free Zones Authority(GFZA), with a donation of GH¢300,000 to support the Fund’s life-saving work.

The contribution strengthens the Fund’s mission to support Ghanaians battling non-communicable diseases and expand access to specialised care across the country.

When our Administrator, Obuobia Darko-Opoku and her team visited the Authority, it felt like a homecoming. She was warmly welcomed by CEO Dr. Mary Awusi, together with the Board, management and staff of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, who received her with deep respect and appreciation.

The team took the opportunity to acknowledge her phenomenal contribution during her time as Deputy CEO of the then Ghana Free Zones Board, recognising the role she played in shaping the institution’s growth and transformation into the Authority it is today.

This was a reminder that great leadership leaves lasting footprints.

Today, the spirit of partnership continues, as the Ghana Free Zones Authority steps forward to support the mission of saving lives and strengthening healthcare across Ghana, and we are grateful.

What began in February as a simple expression of love has grown into something far greater.

It has become a shared national responsibility. A reminder that the health of our country depends on what we are all willing to do.

As we celebrate "Ghana Month" and mark our Independence, we are reminded that freedom must also mean access; access to care, to treatment, to hope. So, “Kyɛrɛ Wo Dɔ” now evolves into the “Heal Ghana” Campaign. A national call for all of us to step forward.

This month, as we celebrate our nation, let us also strengthen it. Let us raise our hands not only in patriotism, but in generosity. Let us give toward a healthier Ghana.

“Kyere wo do” and join the movement

Together, we can heal Ghana.
