📊 Understanding Public Perception of Type 2 Diabetes: An Online Survey

I am conducting a study titled "Assessing the Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices (KAP) of Adults Regarding Risk Factors and Preventive Measures for Type 2 Diabetes: A Cross-Sectional Online Survey" to explore how adults perceive and respond to the risk factors associated with Type 2 diabetes. Given the rising global prevalence of this condition, it's crucial to understand public awareness and behaviors to better inform public health strategies.

🌍 Your Input Matters!

If you are 18 years or older, I invite you to participate in this survey. Your responses will provide valuable insights that can help develop targeted educational campaigns and preventive measures against Type 2 diabetes.

Ethical Considerations:

- Informed consent will be obtained before participation.

- All responses will remain confidential, with data presented in aggregate form.

- Participation is entirely voluntary, and participants can withdraw at any time.

- Data will be securely stored and used solely for research purposes.

WORLD DIABETES DAY

DIABETES CONCERNS EVERY FAMILY
———————————————
Today, 422 million people worldwide are living with diabetes. Diabetes is of a serious global health concern now.

In 2040, more than half a billion people will have diabetes.

About 50% of Type 2 diabetes is preventable or better still delayed, what can you do?

•Eat healthy
•Exercise
•Manage your weight
•Check your blood sugar

The number of people with diabetes has according to WHO has risen to 422 million, and 7% are at risk of blindness.

People with diabetes should have periodic, comprehensive eye examinations.

By 2025, while most people with diabetes in developed countries will be aged 65 years or more, in developing countries most will be 45-64 years age bracket and affecting their most productive years. [WHO, 2016]

Type 2 Diabetes mellitus was less common in developing countries where the diet contains fewer calories and daily caloric expenditure is higher. However, as people in developing countries adopt Western lifestyle, weight gain and type 2 diabetes mellitus are becoming an epidemic.

In developed countries, diabetes is a disease of the poor and in developing countries diabetes is a disease of the rich, obesity being the common factor. (Kumar & Clark, Clinical Medicine, 2009).

COMPLICATIONS

DYK: Diabetes can cause:
-Stroke
-Loss of vision
-Heart attack
-Kidney failure
-Amputation

EXPENSIVE TO MANAGE DIABETES

About 65 million people with type 2 diabetes need insulin, but only half of them are able to access it, largely due to high prices 📈 (WHO, 2019).

In addition, follow medical advice on prescriptions for managing your diabetes as well as diet and lifestyle advice.

All people with type 1 diabetes need insulin to survive.

Some new bioactive drugs isolated from plants have showed anti-diabetic activity with more efficacy than oral hypoglycemia used in clinical therapy.

World Health Organization (WHO) has pointed out the prevention of diabetes and it’s complications is not only a major challenge for the future, but essential if health for all is to be attained.

Therefore in recent years, considerable attention has been directed towards identification of plants with anti diabetic properties.

WHAT CAN YOU DO NOW?

• Visit a nearby clinic or pharmacy and check your blood sugar
•Pay attention to your diet. Don’t eat because there is food, eat because you are hungry.
•Read labels on products you buy in stores and on the market
•Seek medical advice and follow medical advice if you are a known diabetic
•Don’t resort to self-medication whether herbal or orthodox. Visit professionals in the hospital for treatment.

Do you need to learn more about diabetes, how it affects you and your family and how you can prevent it?

Just leave me a message. Take care of yourself, no one else will.

Diabetes is an "expensive" disease. You should be preventing it, not be treating it.

DOLPHMEDICS HEALTH EDUCATION

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
——————————————————-

The month of October has been set aside as the Breast cancer awareness month.

Breast cancer has been the most frequently diagnosed life-threatening cancer in women and the leading cause of cancer death among women worldwide.

When was the last time you got your breast examined ?

Most ladies are shy of making an appointment with a Doctor for breast examination or seeing a Gynaecologist.

But did you know you can self examine your breast and even recommended?

Breast shape varies among women.

The breast is made up of fatty tissue and glandular, milk-producing tissues. The ratio of fatty tissue to glandular tissue varies among individuals. In addition, with the onset of menopause (ie, decrease in estrogen levels), the relative amount of fatty tissue increases as the glandular tissue diminishes.

There are a number of pathological breast conditions. Early diagnosis is key to a good prognosis.

Self breast examination is the first step. Not every cancer can be found this way, but it is a critical step you can and should take for yourself.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

* Don’t panic if you think you feel a lump. Most women have some lumps or lumpy areas in their breasts all the time, and most breast lumps turn out to be benign (not cancer).

There has been some recent debate over just how important breast self-examination is in early detection of breast cancer therefore increasing the likelihood of survival.

There was a 2008 study of about 400,000 women in Russia and China and it was reported that breast self-exam does not reduce breast cancer mortality and may even cause harm by prompting unnecessary biopsies (removal and examination of suspicious tissue).

Due to the ongoing uncertainty, it prompted the American Cancer Society to no longer recommend breast self-exam as a screening tool for women with an average risk of breast cancer.

However, Breastcancer.org still recommends that breast self-examination is a useful screening tool, especially when done together with regular physical exams by a doctor, mammography, and ultrasound. Some breast cancers are only found by physical examination, not by mammography.

It is therefore still our recommendation that all women routinely perform breast self-exams as part of their overall breast cancer screening strategy.

Find attached flyer to self examine your breast.

DO YOU KNOW YOUR STATUS?

It’s not worth it to stay in a relationship and get married without knowing your status.

I tell you, raising kids with Sickle cell disease isn’t something you want to do.

Don’t be blinded by love. Love is not selfish, if you find out you two are not compatible.

Don’t punish your kids because of your love.
