TONSILLITIS
Tonsils are the two oval-shaped pads of tissues at the back of the throat. Tonsils are your first line of defense against illness. They produce white blood cells that help your body fights infections.
When the tonsils become inflamed, the condition is called *Tonsilitis*
CAUSES
Tonsilitis is usually caused by a viral infection, however bacterial infection can also be a cause.
SYMPTOMS
Sore throat
Snoring
Difficulty or pain while swallowing
Fever
Chills
Scratchy- soundig voice
Headache
Earache
Stiff neck
Jaw and neck tenderness from swollen lymph nodes.
Tonsils that appear red and swollen
Tonsils that have white and yellow spots.
TREATMENT
Mild cases of tonsillitis doesn't necessarily require treatment, especially if caused by a virus.
Antibiotics in severe cases of tonsillitis.
Pain medication to relieve sore throat.
Tonsillectomy: surgical removal of the tonsils if there is chronic or recurrent tonsillitis.
