From reading notes for a visually impaired course mate to starting Beyond the Braille and later founding OFIE, I’ve seen how small acts can spark life-changing .

Today, OFIE continues to , empower youth with disabilities, support caregivers, and raise awareness to break down barriers.

In our first cohort of the Tech4Life Initiative—designed to train youth with disabilities in tech skills to create assistive devices that benefit them personally, generate income, and spark interest in tech careers, we discovered a true gem.A young tech genius who brings his imagination to life with his hands. From building speakers to designing mini military bases out of boxes with battery powered motors, he reminded us of a powerful truth: children with disabilities have incredible creative talents that can shine when given the right support.

As the world advances with technology, education must also evolve to meet these changes. Through education, individuals are being equipped to be able to read, write, speak, listen, view, and represent in ways that allow for understanding, interpretation, creation, and effective communication. Digitalization should be utilized to enhance impact.

When applied intentionally, digital literacy transforms opportunities for learners with disabilities. Moving beyond traditional paper-based reading and writing, technology enables a child with disabilities to access education without barriers.

Let’s continue to champion inclusive education and harness digital tools to make literacy accessible to all.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES (IDPWD).

The 3rd of December every year is designated to celebrate persons with disability and create awareness on disability issues.

The theme of the IDPWD 2023 is “United in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with and by persons with disabilities”.

This celebration aims at promoting the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in all facets of society and increaing awareness of the challenges faced by them.

The significance of the international day of persons with disability lies in its commitment to creating an environment where individuals, regardless of their abilities, have the opportunity to lead a fulfilling life.

This year’s celebration brings attention to all the SDGs that promote the wellbeing of persons with disabilities to create a world that is accessible, safe and inclusive for everyone.
