2025 Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention Begins in Four Regions
The Service has commenced the first phase of Cycle One of the 2025 Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) campaign today, Tuesday, 2nd July 2025, and it is expected to run until Sunday, 6th July 2025.
This phase will cover four regions: Oti, Bono East, Upper East, and Upper West. The exercise forms part of annual malaria interventions and is carried out in four monthly cycles during the rainy season, from July to September, a period associated with high malaria transmission.
The SMC intervention helps protect children aged 3 to 59 months from malaria by giving them monthly malaria medicine to prevent them from contracting the disease.
The campaign is being implemented in phases across seven malaria-endemic regions: Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East, Upper West, Oti, and Bono East.
Guardians and caregivers in the participating regions are kindly urged to make their children available for the treatment, as trained health volunteers will be conducting house-to-house visits to administer the medication.
Together, through consistent action and community support, we can achieve a malaria-free Ghana.
