๐ฆด Osteoporosis is a common issue, particularly for women
๐ฆด In fact, half of women over the age of 50 are expected to break a bone because of osteoporosis.
โฌ๏ธ As this The Telegraph article shows, itโs often undiagnosed until bone density is so low, that broken bones occur and the preventative treatments available arenโt effective.
โ๏ธ Thatโs where a Dexa bone density scan comes in!
โ๏ธ A Bone Densitometry scan is available to all women as part of their preventative healthcare program.
๐ฒ To book yours, make an appointment with one of our GPs to discuss osteoporosis and get a referral for a scan.
Broken hips kill as many women as breast cancer thanks to weakened bones, so why is no one testing those who are most at risk?

Babies change and develop so much in their first year and there are developmental milestones to look at for, to make sure everything is progressing as it should be. This article has some key skills and abilities which babies will develop during the first year to use as a reference.
However, itโs important to remember that each baby develops at their own pace. Itโs not a race and usually thereโs nothing to worry about if your baby takes a little longer with some things.
If you have any concerns, book an appointment with Dr Amit Mirchandani. As part of the WellBaby Service, he monitors weight, length, and head circumference, checks developmental milestones, assess feeding and sleep patterns, and reviews immunisations.
The WellChild Service is held every Tuesday and Thursday at the Specialist Medical Clinic. Book your WellChild Consultation by calling +350 200 49999 or emailing info@smg.gi.
