BMCH, SZRECC, and NEHP Jointly Commemorate World Sight Day 2025.
On Thursday, 9th October 2025 Bundung Maternal and Child Hospital (BMCH), in collaboration with the Sheikh Zayed Regional Eye Care Center (SZRECC) and the National Eye Health Programme (NEHP), joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Sight Day 2025 under the theme “Love Your Eyes.”
The event, held at the BMCH premises, brought together community members, healthcare professionals and partner institutions to promote awareness on the importance of eye health. The commemoration featured free eye screenings for the public, with several individuals booked for free eye surgeries to be conducted at the BMCH Eye Unit.
Speaking during the event, Dr. M.T. Nyassi, Director of Health Services, highlighted the need for sustained collaboration and public engagement to strengthen national eye care services. Dr. Mamady Cham, Chief Executive Officer of BMCH, commended the partnership between BMCH, SZRECC, and NEHP, noting that such collaborations are essential in ensuring equitable access to quality eye care across the country.
Dr. Ceesay, CEO of SZRECC, and Hon. Sulayman Jammeh, National Assembly Member for Bundung, both emphasized the importance of preventive eye health and community outreach. The Programme Manager of NEHP echoed similar sentiments, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving eye health and reducing avoidable blindness in The Gambia.
