Taking the Message to Communities: Drug-Free Generation ๐๐
On 17thโ18th April 2026, Peace of Mind (POM) supported a youth-led Drug Abuse Prevention Caravan across Jarrol, Bondali, Kansala, Bintang Karanai, and Brefet.
With youth facilitators under a UNDP-supported project, we engaged communities directly; sharing prevention messages at Bantabas, markets, roadside stops, and local radio.
Through discussions and IEC materials, we reached women, youth, elders, and leaders; raising awareness on substance use and mental wellbeing ๐ง .
Collaboration with Imams and Chiefs helped reinforce messages through Friday sermons and community engagements ๐ค๐.
A key concern was the widespread use of โTabaaโ (Simang Kolaa), especially among women, with low awareness of its risks.
Despite challenges, the caravan sparked dialogue across communities.
This shows youth are powerful change-makers ๐ช, and Peace of Mind remains committed to a healthier, drug-free generation ๐ฑ.

We kicked off Module 3 of our ongoing Master Training (MT) on MHPSS this past Monday. This module, titled PSS Intervention and Basic Counseling Skills, began with a powerful and heartfelt Check-In session.
This time, the experience was truly unique. Both participants and trainers/supervisors took turns sitting face-to-face, sharing how they have been feeling and opening up about their experiences over the past weeks and months. Colleagues were then given the opportunity to respond; through supportive comments or thoughtful questions; to better understand one another.
This moment of connection was made possible by the journey we have built together and the safe space we continue to nurture. It beautifully reflects the core focus of Module 3: creating safe spaces, ensuring confidentiality, and strengthening listening and communication skills.
We also conducted a group evaluation of the Module 2 step-down training. Our Master Trainers, who facilitated sessions to participants coming across different regions, shared reflections on teamwork, facilitation skills, participant engagement, supervision styles, and key recommendations.
These insights have given us a clear understanding of what worked well and what needs improvement, setting a strong foundation as we move forward.
Together, we continue to learn, grow, and strengthen our capacity to support mental well-being in our communities. ๐

From Awareness to Action!
Peace of Mind proudly facilitated the High-Level Drug Prevention Stakeholders Engagement, bringing together 200 youth and key decision-makers from Lower River Region and West Coast Region at Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center.
Under the theme โFrom Awareness to Action: Strengthening Youth-Led Drug Prevention System,โ the engagement created a strong platform for dialogue, commitment, and practical solutions on drug prevention, mental health, youth leadership, community engagement, and policy action.
Through high-level discussions, breakout sessions, and a joint declaration, youth and stakeholders made concrete commitments toward building stronger community systems to protect young people from drug abuse.
We thank the United Nations Development Programme and partners for the trust and collaboration in advancing youth-centered prevention and inclusive peacebuilding in The Gambia. ๐๐ค๐

Over the past 12 days, Peace of Mind had the privilege of contributing to a nationwide training on Strengthening Insider Mediation and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Capacities of Kanyalengs and Insider Mediators across all regions of The Gambia.
We were invited to facilitate MHPSS sessions, highlighting the importance of integrating mental health and psychosocial support into community mediation and peacebuilding processes. Strengthening the wellbeing of mediators and community actors is essential for sustainable conflict prevention and effective dialogue.
This initiative was part of the EU/UNDP Strengthening Insider Mediation Project in The Gambia, implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and key civil society partners including Peace Hub The Gambia (lead organisation), Peace AmbassadorsโThe Gambia), Peace Network, and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Secretariat.
The project aims to strengthen community-based conflict prevention, promote inclusive insider mediation practices, and institutionalize MHPSS within mediation processes.
We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to building resilient communities and supporting the important role of Kanyalengs and insider mediators in sustaining peace across the country.

๐๐ง Mental Health Must Be Part of the Climate Conversation
Peace of Mind (POM) was honored to be part of todayโs official launch of the Baobab Initiative: Women Leading Health & Climate Action in The Gambia, led by PF Initiative Tahawou Jigueen.
Our Founder and Executive Director was invited to speak on a truth that cannot be overemphasized: the link between climate change and mental health. While the impacts of climate change are often visible, the mental health effects are frequently invisible; yet widespread and growing.
Climate shocks affect emotional wellbeing, increase stress and trauma, and slow recovery. Thatโs why mental health must be integrated into climate responses to build resilience, support healing, and help communities recover faster and stronger.
This powerful campaign places women at the center of climate resilience, community health, and local leadership because when women lead, communities truly thrive.
The energy at todayโs launch was unmatched. The work is happening. The impact is real. And the time for action is now.
Funded by the Sanofi Foundation.
Healthy Women. Resilient Communities.

Peace of Mind is a non-profit organisation that was founded in 2018. The current team consists of four dedicated members, committed to improving well-being within local communities.
Having had contact with numerous schools, hospitals and humanitarian organisations in Gambia, the founders of Peace of Mind, were aware that there was a gap in knowledge around the concept of mental well-being for much of the Gambian population. The result of this gap in knowledge was a severe lack of Psycho-Social support available for the citizens of Gambia, should they be facing any kind of mental distress. Very few services provided suitable interventions for individuals who were struggling with difficulties in their lives such as emotional fragility, lack of self-confidence, or mild to moderate mental health difficulties. The Peace of Mind team observed that there were no services in place to provide support for young people who have neuro-developmental difficulties, learning disabilities, developmental delays or support for the families of those suffering from such disorders. The result of this is many children struggling to cope with mainstream education, leading to large numbers of young people dropping out of school, with minimal work opportunities available to them.
Peace of Mind was initially established with the aim of raising awareness and offering support in response to Psycho-Social issues that affect individuals across the country within homes, schools and the wider community.
Peace of Mind has the vision of making a meaningful contribution to the well-being of children, young people, adults and the elderly in Gambian society, with special focus on psycho-emotional welfare. The intent of the organisation is to spread the holistic approach of well-being in which body, mind and soul are interconnected. Peace of Mind aims to assist other stakeholders within The Gambia, in building a future society where individuals can have the same opportunities to live a long and healthy life, regardless of any obstacles they may face; such as mental distress or developmental difficulties. Peace of Mind has hope that through continued efforts, individuals facing such obstacles can become more aware of their mind as well as body, of their emotional needs, their talents as well as their limits and form a stronger connection to their inner and most authentic self (soul).
Peace of Mind is a non-profit organisation partly sustained by PoM Trails and APPS (Alliance of Psychological Professionals).
