Today GAFNA wraps up the training of refugees and hosts in the border village of Ballen on the production of cooking briquettes after conducting similar trainings in the border villages of Upart, Karunor and Buluntu. This initiative is funded by UNHCR and implemented by GAFNA with technical support from Women Initiative Gambia. The intervention is aimed at introducing a more environmentally friendly technique as opposed to the traditional method of charcoal production that rely heavily on cutting trees that contributes to deforestation and is risky, tedious and also associated with a lot of safety risks.
