White bread and other processed foods to stay away from. White flour was created in the 50's so it could be distributed more easily and have a longer shelf live. So all the nutrition was taken out of the flour and bleached, that gave the problem at the time that very soon many people got really sick, so they then added vitamins and other stuff to the flour to keep it longer and make it "healthy" again. Well what about whole wheat bread then? Whole wheat flour today is actually white flour where they added the bran later again after it was sanitized. It is of course much better than white bread because of the bran it has more vitamins and fiber in it. Whatever it is, eating too much grains is not good for us, humans have been eating and cultivating grains for about 4000 years and only on a really big scale for the last few decades with the mechanization of agriculture adding fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides to soils increasing production ten fold. Humans never ate as much grains as we are eating now. Those grains include wheat, rice, barley, corn and others. Flour and sugar concentrations are in almost all processed food, that is one of the reasons we have more heart, cancer, diabetes and other modern diseases now than any time before in history.

Is eating meat good or bad for you? That is a very important question and one that gives very contradistinction answers in many cases. Humans are categorized as Omnivores that means they eat meat and plants and that goes back for millions of years. Eating meats has most likely evolved humans to have a bigger brains, because the more concentration of fats and proteins that gives us the brain power. Eating meat today in the industrialized world can be a challenge, However in Guyana I think it is fairly safe to eat meat because most animals are naturally fed. Except the chickens that are force fed and with antibiotics in their food for faster growth. Most meat like beef, pork, duck and others are safe to eat. Meat however should never be overcooked or burned that can lead to several cancers, so stay away from grilled or burned meats. Also processed meat is not recommended, eat only sausages and other processed meat from butchers you trust. Canned meat is definitely something to stay away from as any other canned product, only to be consumed in an emergency like war.

Many people in Guyana don't seem to understand the difference between Fasting and Starving, When you overweight or obese and stop eating you are fasting, the fat reserves are worked out every day till the right weight is achieved. Starving however is when the fat reserves are already depleted and then the mussels and intestines are eating away. To know what your ideal weight is to stop or start to fast is to calculate your BMI or Body Mass Index, More about that another day.
