Medical Data sharing with the Hospital Authority

In Hong Kong, many of our patients attended the Hospital Authority hospitals for treatment in addition to our Centre for haeomdialysis. It would be ideal if there is data exchange between the Centre and the HA hospitals. This can now be achieved with the eHRSS (electronic health record sharing system). Our Centre now had the HKMA CMS YM system installed and we can now view the patient data in HA hospitals and we can also share some information (such as drug allergy) with the system. This is achieve with an built in ELSA (encapsulated software linkage) authenication system. We are the only centre equipped with such system.

Polycystic Kidneys Disease (PCKD) Support Group

Polycystic Kidneys Disease is a condition in which a large number of cysts appears in the kidneys of the affected patients. The kidneys grow in size and in number. Many of the patients developed kidney failure at the age of 60. PCKD accounts for 10% of the patients needing haemodialysis. In February this year, we formed the PCKD support group inauguration and it became the first PCKD support group in Hong Kong.

The ceremony and the PCKD information day were attended by 100 PCKD patients and their relatives, medical personnel and members of the public interested in the disease.

Organ Donation Promotion - The Spring Sowers

As chairman of the Organ Donation Committee of the Hong Kong Medical Association, Dr Ho Chung Ping organized an innovative organ donation activity called Spring Sowers 2017. The participants took part in a walk from Pak Tam Chung in Sai Kung to the West Dam in High Island Reservoir and back. Participants would mobilize 5 of their friends and relatives to sign up for donation in the Hong Kong Central Organ Donation Registry.

The walk was very successful. Two weeks after the walk, there were 1625 new registrations. However, there are multiple organ donation activities going on in Hong Kong and the Spring Sowers is only a small part of the picture.
