The ancestral occupation of the Majhi people is to help other people in crossing the many rivers of Nepal in their Majhi made boats. Fishing was for their sustenance, freely catch fish from the rivers. The Majhi also farm but they don't have enough land to fulfill their daily needs, the women especially sell "Marcha" an ayurvedic medicine for making wine and jand i.e. special winemaking of cooked corns in the markets. Due to suspension bridges over rivers and various interference in their traditional working areas is destroying the traditional Majhi way of life.
These 85 Majhi families are below the poverty line and most of them earn their living by working in daily wages at brick chimney (factory) which has been closed due to Lockdown.
After nearly 3 months of lockdown due to the COVID-19 crisis. Nepal has confirmed 6,591 cases with 19 deaths till 16th June 2020.
