The Dental Shield

The use of ultrasonic scaler in the dental setting produces large amount of aerosol and splatter. With the use of florescence solution, the spread of droplet can be visualized. This study shows that after a short ten mins of scaling with the use of high-volume suction, large amount of droplets are found over the personal protective equipment of the operator (i.e. the protective gown and the face mask). Whereas with the use of dental shield, droplets are being effectively blocked by the shield with no florescence droplets found on the gown above the elbow and the face mask.
