Chinese health, exercise system offered at library
With roots in Chinese medicine, philosophy and martial arts, qi gong is traditionally viewed as a practice to cultivate and balance one’s qi chi, –or “life energy.”
In contrast to yoga, or fast moving aerobic exercises such as jazzercise, qi gong is a more contemplative activity, consisting of slow, gradual, flowing movements which are supposed to focus equally on body and mind.
“It’s a low impact exercise,” Steg said. “Qi gong is about body, mind and spirit. The main point is to try to relax.”
