【一隻小象的故事】

從前，有一隻小象被捉了入馬戲團。訓練員用一條繩把小象的腿連繫在大樹幹上，從而訓練他服從。

小象起初不斷掙扎，希望能掙脫、弄斷繩子。過了數天，小象發現了... 原來自己怎樣掙扎也沒有用。

終於，小象不再掙扎，接受了自己就是活在樹幹的旁邊、乖乖地活在既定範圍內。

漸漸小象長大成大象了。那條繫在腳上的小繩子對體積龐大的大象來說已變得很渺小。大象明明有足夠的能力去弄斷繩子，但它並沒有嘗試掙扎。大象就這樣默默地、乖乖地留在馬戲團渡過餘生。

這個不是一個故事，而是紀錄片中的一個真象真事。大象之所以不再掙扎是因為 “Learned helplessness” （不詳談，可參考文末資料）—— 是因爲兒時的經歷已讓他學會了無助：「做咩都無用架啦，算啦！」

如果你們是小象的爸爸媽媽，你們會寧願小象繼續掙扎、就算受傷也繼續掙扎，還是寧願小象乖乖學懂聽話、在小小空間好好生存？

選擇不到？當然明白。哪有爸爸媽媽會捨得孩子受傷？又哪有爸爸媽媽捨得孩子被綁著一輩子？

象爸爸、象媽媽其實並不需要二選其一。他們還有很多選擇，例如可以幫助小象弄斷繩子、給他溫暖、替他療傷、讓他對生命保持希望等等。

小象其實不想絕望。
小象很需要大家。
