Psychiatrist Dr Ivan Mak Wing-chit said violent tendencies were relatively more common with severe mental illnesses such as schizophrenia.
“A lot of the time, the risk of violent tendencies is related to some factors. For instance, in terms of symptoms, most commonly we see [individuals] will have delusions of being persecuted or auditory hallucinations that someone is talking about them or trying to hurt them.
“Society needs to keep helping these mental illness patients, they need to have a clear understanding and not discriminate against these individuals,” he said.
