At Paws in Motion, we believe in healthy, sustainable weight loss that improves mobility and vitality. Never put your pet on a diet without professional guidance. Hereโ€™s our guide to doing it safely.

- Pets should be losing the weight slowly (1-2% of his weight each week).

- Keep a food diary including picture of meal quantities.

- Gather the daily portion of food in one container to prevent over feeding.

- Weight your pet every week and keep track the progress.

Our full nutrition plan are 100% tailored to suit your pet's need, including setting a goal weight, calculating your pet's daily caloric requirements and recommending a specific food and portion size.

Let's work together and make our pets fit for life!

Weight loss is about more than just eating less, in fact, it's about moving more. But for a pet in pain, movement itself is the biggest challenge. That's why effective weight management must begin with pain relief.

Pets are intelligent. If chasing a ball caused sharp pain yesterday, theyโ€™ll be hesitant to try again today. Through therapies that make movement comfortable and positive, we help rebuild their confidence and restore their willingness to be active.

This is all part of breaking the vicious cycle of pain and weight gain:

๐Ÿ”„ A pet gains weight due to overfeeding or low activity.

๐Ÿ”„ The extra weight places stress on joints, causing or worsening conditions like arthritis.

๐Ÿ”„ Because movement is painful, the pet becomes even less active.

๐Ÿ”„ This decreased activity leads to further weight gain, which in turn leads to more pain.

Our vet team is here to help if you think your pet is over weight or in pain.

This study isn't just about Labradors. The principles apply to every dog and cat.

The most impactful thing you can do to extend your pet's healthy, active life is to keep them at a lean body weight.

How to do it at home:

1) Stop Free-Feeding: Transition to measured meals at set times.

2) Know Their Calorie Needs: Your vet can help you calculate the exact daily calories for your pet's ideal weight.

3) Treats counts too! This should be less than 10% of daily calories intake.

There is no perfect weight for the breed and size of pets. Body Condition Score (BCS) is a hands-on way to check if your pet is overweight.

- Feel their ribs easily with light pressure (like the back of your hand over the knuckles).

- See a defined waist when looking from above.

- See an abdominal tuck when viewing from the side.
