🇭🇰👶🏼 HONG KONG BIRTH STORIES
💖 Cy’s birth journey began on the morning of May 9th, when she visited a private OB for a membrane sweep. An ultrasound showed a hardening placenta and a slightly elevated umbilical cord measurement, so she was advised to head to Queen Mary Hospital for monitoring and a possible induction.
✨ She was admitted to QMH and contractions began early on May 10th. After slow progression, she was given a pessary to help things along, and by 11:10pm she was in active labour at 3cm. Her husband was called in to join her, just in time as things began to intensify.
💫 An epidural was attempted but didn’t fully work due to scoliosis, so she powered through with gas & air. Baby was sunny side up (spine to spine) and moving down quickly, and an episiotomy was performed. Just after midnight she started feeling the urge to push, and after around 15–20 minutes, baby Kai was born on May 11th 🤍 The medical team assisted with the delivery of the placenta.
🌸 Mum stayed at Queen Mary for a total of 6 days and by day 2 postpartum, she remembers thinking she could do it all again for baby number two 😆
Thank you so much for sharing your story, Cy! 🤍
