🇭🇰👶 HONG KONG BIRTH STORIES - CAESAREAN AWARENESS MONTH
💜 Cherry’s birth at Hong Kong Baptist Hospital began with a plan for a vaginal delivery. However, after 9 hours of labour, her cervix had only dilated to 5cm and her baby’s heartbeat began to drop - leading to an emergency c-section.
Like many first-time mums, Cherry had carefully considered her options before labour, with a larger baby and a petite frame, she knew vaginal birth might be challenging, but chose to try for a natural delivery and hadn’t planned for a c-section.
The shift in plan wasn’t easy. Cherry shared that she felt some disappointment and questioned whether her body had let her down but ultimately focused on what mattered most: the safety of her baby and herself, placing trust in her medical team.
Once the decision was made, everything moved quickly. Cherry was transferred to theatre, given anaesthesia, and within 15 minutes, she heard her baby cry for the first time. Her partner stayed by her side throughout - from labour through to surgery.
🤍 Recovery was smooth, supported by a month of Chinese confinement and belly binding.
Thank you for sharing your story, Cherry 🫶
✨ Throughout April, we’ll be sharing one caesarean birth story each week for - highlighting the many different paths birth can take.
