Bringing Better Health to Our Community 2012
– Knowing Hypertension
The public health education day on 11 November, 2012 was very successful. It was attended by over 200 members of the public. 170 of them recieved the free health check and medical consultation. The data will be published after analysis.
The function was organised by The Hong Kong Medical Association, Kowloon Central Cluster of Hospital Authority, the Hong Kong Baptist Hospital, Hong Kong Nephrology Group, Yau Tsim Mong Healthy City, Kowloon Region School Heads Association and the Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association. It took place in the Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association Town Hall. There were health talks on the early detection and treatment of hypertension and kidney disease and introduction of DASH diet; medical check up stations to measure blood pressure, blood sugar, urine protein and the waist circumference. A panel of voluntary doctors and specialists was available for providing free consultation to the participants. A DASH diet booth was set up at the venue to disseminate basic principles of DASH diet and teach the public on easy recipes of DASH diet cooking.
The public should note that with a healthy eating habit and regular physical exercises, the development of hypertension may be prevented. Everybody can do!
