Since its establishment in April 2024, the Institute of Digital Medicine (IDM) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) has achieved remarkable progress in bridging the gap between technology and healthcare. At its recent Annual General Meeting, the IDM showcased how it is transforming the medical landscape through data-driven innovation.
🔬 Key Launch: CityUHK–EHP Data Collaboration Laboratory The IDM has officially launched this new research platform to support the responsible use of health data. It provides authorised researchers with access to anonymised clinical data from the public healthcare system, creating a secure environment to develop advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI), data analytics, and digital health technologies.
🎯 Three Core Research Clusters:
1. Biomarkers, Diagnostics, and Therapeutics: Bridging laboratory research and clinical application.
2. Health Data and Models: Extracting actionable insights from large datasets to support clinical decision-making.
3. Wearables, Sensors, and Imaging: Focusing on remote monitoring and decentralised care to track health continuously.
📊 Global Impact & Collaboration:
• 18 active research projects currently addressing disease detection and treatment.
• Partnerships with over 20 universities, medical schools, and clinical organisations worldwide.
• Organised over 12 symposiums and seminars to foster international knowledge exchange.
💡 The Vision: By integrating engineering, data science, and medical science, the IDM is tackling the pressures of ageing populations and chronic disease burdens. The goal is to move towards more proactive, personalised care that delivers long-term benefits to patients and the healthcare system.
