How do you find yourself reacting to uncertain, new, challenging situations? Does a crippling fear take over, or are you able to channel that adrenalin in order to handle it?

This article helps to break down and look at various situations we can find ourselves in and guides us in how we can start to bring calm, mindfulness or as the writer says, attentional control into our lives.

It's worth the read if you would like to learn more and equip yourself with new coping tools - https://betterhumans.pub/how-to-calm-down-and-handle-fear-fueled-adrenaline-rushes-rationally-689ce6ec9a5a

The Joyfulli Book Club #1

The first book we read was “The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read” by Philippa Perry. We had a great time reflecting and discussing the issues Perry raises in her book and Joy shares 2 key takeaways she had.

If you would like to join our next book club meeting, please contact Joy for details.

On Feb 8, we had our first book club meeting, discussing “The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read” by Philippa Perry. I really enjoyed reading this, doing the exercises in my own time, then having the opportunity to discuss it with a group of amazing people. It would be too simplistic to say rea...

Happy International Women's Day! As we celebrate all the achievements of women and women in our lives today, we also continue to stand against the gender inequality we still face.

COVID-19 has shown a disproportionate impact on women
- in the workplace, as women are more likely to leave the workforce to take on childcare and domestic duties,
- with reports of increasing domestic abuse, gender-based violence and exploitation

As women are essential frontline workers and caregivers during this time, we need to ensure there is equality in response and support. For more information and resources visit https://www.unwomen.org/en/news/in-focus/in-focus-gender-equality-in-covid-19-response

UN Women is bringing up-to-date information and analysis on how and why gender matters in COVID-19 response.

With family members and loved ones located in different parts of the world, travelling will continue to be important for people to connect with one another. With quarantine rules in place, it can make the travel decision harder with fears, uncertainty and frustration of having to be confined to a hotel room for 14-21 days.

Joy recently went through 2 quarantines so she could spend valuable time with family and she shares a few tips on how to prepare yourself. In particular, the HK Quarantine support group was very helpful!

When I mentioned to people I was going to have to quarantine in a Hong Kong hotel for 21 days after my Christmas break, I was met with “I could never do that!”, “I’d be so bored!”, “I don’t think I could survive it”. I definitely related to those feelings of worry, panic, grief and f...

As we start the new year and continue adjusting to the changes we face, remember to be kind to yourself. Self-compassion can look like many things, and a lot of times it is to do with how we self-talk. Check out this article for ways you can apply this in your life.

2020, what a year it has been! We've had to make changes and for me that meant being more mindful of where I commit my energy and time, choosing to focus on things that are most important. One of those things is being able to hold the space for clients, especially with the additional layer of stress and anxiety that COVID has laid on top of existing issues.

As usually please join me in an annual reflection exercise, this year is especially important as it gives us time to unpack our experiences in order for us to be more resilient for whatever comes in 2021. Access the reflection on this link - https://bit.ly/34lA3Df

[Testimonial]

"Working with Joy is a special experience, one which is both refreshing and enlightening. A session with her blends Eastern and Western traditions in a fashion that is truly unique - a mix of physical therapy, counselling, and meditation. Joy's sensitivity, good humour, and intuition creates a space where both your true self and the parts that shape how you see the world are not only welcomed but embraced. Even with a single session, I felt a sense of great ease both in my mind and my body."

Happy International Women's Day!!

Celebrate the women in your life with this reflective exercise:
1) Think of 3 adjectives to describe the women in your life.
2) Write them down and share your words with each of them.

I did this for my grandma, mom and my 3 sisters and myself. A little fun fact, my grandma, mom and I are the eldest of our siblings!
