[Changes in weather, body pain, am I the observatory?]
More clients came for massage over the past fortnight, mostly due to sudden body pain despite no injury. Note that a couple of weeks earlier, there was sudden rain at night, followed by obvious temperature drop. Clinical experience showed that it was common for clients encountering the above situation, whether they are in their 30s or up to 60s.
One of the reasons that people may not realized is the change in atmospheric pressure (drop in barometric pressure), that fits the theories of “Boyle’s Law” proposed by British scientist Robert Boyle in 1662 and several subsequent Western scientists.
Principle: The joints of our body (such as knees, finger joints) are a closed space called the joint capsule, filled with lubricant and tissue, and the surrounding cartilage also have a certain thickness and elasticity. Normally, the pressure within the joint capsule remains in balance with the external atmospheric pressure. When the weather turns bad and rains, the atmospheric pressure drops, resulting in relatively higher pressure inside the joint capsule than outside, which in turn causes the inside of the joint capsule to expand, the gases in the lubricant are released, and the tissue expands slightly. With age and constant activity and load bearing, the attached cartilage got thinner. Do not underestimate only a very small change, the human body structure is extremely precise and sensitive. The above process stimulates the abundant nerve endings around the joint, thereby producing aching sensation.
Many factors lead to body pain when the weather changes. However, if the pain is extreme and affects your daily life, seeking medical consultation is mostly advised.
