WE ARE GARDEN WONDER
We are an urban secret concert event, who love music, and live for community.
We bring our unique shows to different secret venues each time, and create a special experience for our guests, and our artists who play at these shows.
We are passionate about supporting talented young upcoming artists.
We aim to create a homely atmosphere on each event, and to build a generous creative culture in Budapest and beyond.
We seek to create those intimate experieces where artist and guest are able to draw closer to each other.
On our events, we usually bring 2-3 artists to perform, and we have short breaks in between, so people can fully be present during the performance, and freely engage with each other during the breaks.
What do we do?
We are building a creative music-loving community through monthly curated concerts that we organise in different secret locations each month, usually in uncommon spaces that we feel would suit our chill and personal vibe. We’ve had concerts in a hair salon, a physio therapy life centre, galleries, coffee shops, warehouses, and a ship.
Our volunteer team share the passion for music, for creativity, and community, and we value generosity and excellence. We have videographers, photographers, social media influencers, sound technicians, and other creatives who come together to dream and build these shows together.
We release the coming shows on our page, and people can reserve their place via the ticket link. We have very limited places for each location. We send out the secret address via email to those who purchased the online tickets. We usually have about 50-150 people at each show.
On our shows, we have 2-3 artists (our main profile is indie-folk, but we love to see and hear all talents who fit our chill vibe) or bands who perform as support and headliner, and in between the music blocks we have a 10-15 minute social time (or bathroom break for some. Blame that on the BYOB drinks) where we encourage people to get to know each other, and talk to the artists. Also, the artists typically bring their CDs and other merch, so this is the time to grab souvenirs as well.
During the performances, we encourage people to fully engage in the music, and fully enjoy it. I peronally love seeing our guests sit back and relax, and listen to some of the songs with eyes closed. I just melt when I see such a freeing atmoshpere! We also love to see all types of individuals, friend groups, or families come and attend our events. We had a couple shows with people who came with their dog and that made us all so happy!
At the start of our secret shows we always take time to thank and honour our hosts, whether it’s a private home or a professional space, by sharing the story behind each location with our guests, and encouraging them to engage and get to know the hosts, and giving them a chance to find new connections (it worked out great for the hair salon - a week after that Garden Wonder I saw three friends change their hairstyle, all of them were proud to tell me they went back to the house concert location, because they became friends with the hair salon owner)
We also promote the artists by giving them a platform and a small but great and appreciative crowd of young people who will become life-long followers and friends to these artists. We also create professional photo content that we later share with our artists and the venues.
And we promote community, by engaging with our guests at each event, by sharing and listening to life stories, and by building our team of Garden Wonder volunteers and friends. We love to see them laugh and enjoy getting to know each other, and the artists! Our group of guests is always a great mix of Hungarians and internationals, and sometimes tourists who just happened to stumble upon our Facebook event, and thought it a great idea to come to a private and local event. We had a Potruguese girl, who found us like this, and she told me that this music community is what she’s been searching for in Budapest, and by finding us, she might stay in Hungary, because she finally found a community she feels at home. I am always astounded at hearing these stories, and all the more passionate about building this new house concert community in such a creative and diverse city as this.
We started sharing our content on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, so more people would be able to follow our journey even if they are not in Budapest.
What’s our goal?
Our heart behind it all is this: love people, support music, raise potential, and simply have a good ol’ time together with friends. If we have achieved this at our events, we are one step closer to the mission we came to do. That is to open the gate to bring international indie artists to Budapest for the first time, and introduce their music to the young people here, to find artists who have been maybe hiding in Budapest already and expose them to a trusted platform that we create, and to inspire all who come to create new music, to dare to take risks as creatives, and to build lifelong friendships with like-minded souls.
Our short motto at Garden Wonder: Come, Connect, Chill. And we take this seriously.
