🌿 Becoming a Gourmet of Touch
Since childhood, I’ve felt myself to be super sensitive. Sometimes it was difficult, because social norms dictate how much closeness is “appropriate”: when to hug, kiss cheeks, or be hugged and kissed.
And in some settings, you’re expected to keep distance. For example, in most groups men would shake hands, but for women it was considered unusual (until I started doing it. One of my bosses later told me it became his habit too, and he even offered handshakes during other negotiations, which was quite strange for my rather conservative home region, lol).
Anyway —
For a hypersensitive person, both the lack of physical warmth and crossing even the subtlest boundaries can feel unpleasant or unsafe.
This same sensitivity made me want to become a true gourmet of touch.
Even a small moment of connection can carry so much invisible, inexpressible information.
I would call it an energy exchange. Like the observer effect, but through touch, where attention and intention changes both participants, and the connection itself.
For me it’s not about “what’s correct” (social norms exist, and usually we follow them for good reasons, yes), but about “what’s alive.” Not the outer form, but the unique pulsation and rhythm of the moment.
( I thought this post would be cute and simple, but… here we are 😅 )
I believe each person has their own universe of touch to discover, with endless possibilities to explore. And my joy is to help discover, experiment with, learn and live this language.
🫂 What kinds of touch do you love the most? Which ones you do not like? Do you feel fluent in the language of touch or still learning (like all of us, really) ?
