One of the most common complaints I get from women dealing with the hormonal changes associated with menopause is weight gain around the middle. ⁠

Why does this happen?⁠
Why do the things that used to work no longer work to trim down?⁠

Try these tips to exercise smarter with Ayurvedic wisdom …

Pitta, the dosha of heat, governs the time of productivity when the sun shines brightest in the sky. During this peak period, our bodies and minds naturally thrive on midday heat, pushing us towards productivity and goal achievement.

But there's a catch: If you're predominantly pitta, beware of engaging in vigorous activities during the pitta hours of 10 am - 2 pm as pitta increases the perimenopause heat symptoms within your body.

Instead, opt for exercising during morning or evening hours, when pitta's intensity cools down, allowing you to balance your energy and decrease symptoms.

I'm curious, what time of day do you feel your best exercising? For me it's early morning because it naturally energizes me, and sets the tone for a healthy day!

If you've had a hot flash this week 🥵 let's chat about phytoestrogens ...

There is scientific evidence that using the power of food - specifically phytoestrogens (plants that contain properties that mimic the good estrogen) can relieve symptoms of menopause including hot flashes, AMAZING right?

The studies look at some Asian cultures (where hot flashes are less common) that consume 50-200 mg of isoflavones daily compared to American diets that contain only 3-5 mg daily!

You may be thinking, "I NEED MORE OF THIS ASAP”, but how do I increase phytoestrogens in my diet?"

As a functional nutritional counselor here are a few of my favorites ...

🍲 Isoflavones: From soy, lentils, and legumes - a few of my favorites are ground flaxseeds, black beans, yellow dahl, edamame, tofu, and tempeh.
🥦 Lignans: From flaxseed, grains, and vegetables such as broccoli.
🌻 Coumestans: From red clover, sunflower seeds, and bean sprouts.

3 cooling tips to beat the summer heat with Pitta Dosha that I use as a Ayurvedic Lifestyle Coach 💦

As we enter the scorching days of summer, it's essential to keep our Pitta Dosha in balance and stay cool. Here are a few of my favorite cooling tips to help you beat the heat:

🥶 Cooling Foods: Include fresh, hydrating fruits like watermelon, cucumber, and berries in your diet. Opt for leafy greens, celery, coconut, and cooling herbs like mint.

🥶 Soothing Activities: Engage in calming and soothing activities like swimming, gentle yoga, and meditation. These practices help reduce heat and promote relaxation, keeping Pitta in check.

🥶 Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. Herbal teas like peppermint can also provide a refreshing and cooling effect.

What we are consuming may also play a role in creating an imbalance - even if they are healthy foods that are often readily available in the summer months - alcohol, lemons, nuts, tomato, spicy foods, corn, beef, chicken, and eggs can contribute to heat in the body. Now this doesn't mean you shouldn't consume them, but it is something to be mindful of when you consider balancing your meals.

Remember, balance is key to harnessing the power of Pitta Dosha while staying cool and composed during the summer heat.
