LAPPER ISSUE SOLVED!!!
IT WAS A SIMPLE, INEXPENSIVE FIX FOR THE AMA!!!
They have two choices on the table:
1. A simple, handlebar mounted, flashing blue light that comes on when the leaders are approaching a rider to lap them
2. In-helmet notification speaker, supplied to riders with the AMA supplied transponder every week.
This will provide ONLY a PRERECORDED voice, "leaders approaching."
That's all, that simple, and either will activate when the lead is within a few seconds (*testing can determine best timing for it to come on.)
*before anyone gets crazy about helmet coms.. this is NOT expensive back and forth coms... no having 5 spotters and constant chatter for factory guys, while privateers have Dad yelling in their ear from the stands. That's unfair, and an added cost to riders..
These options are for a simple notification method. The light or the speaker. Simple. Its for the AMA to supply.
*all the effectiveness will be directly related to enforcement of rules regarding the blue flag, once one of these advisory systems in installed, the must enforce the rules if it is disregarded, but it will be far harder to defend a violation, you were made aware. Period.
*could have it engagement for all of the riders within X seconds of each other, decided by the transponder software, and once blue light or audible warning occurs, no passing until light goes off (one lap after lead passes), then you go back to just the regular blue flag system, as riders will be aware and can easily now follow flags.
Thoughts? Lot of room for specifics still, and rules to be written, but as an Aerospace Defense Engineer familiar with how offensive assets are managed during engagements, MUCH more difficult and with far weightier penalties if failure occurs, I am positive a simple process/tool set can alleviate the majority of rappers issues.
