NeuroMuscular Taping Institute
The history of bandages for therapeutic purposes dates back to Greek and Roman times with the well-known song of the Iliad where Achilles bandages Patroclus arm and wounds. Bandaging or wrapping is defined as the application of bandages or bands on a traumatized area to limit the damage and promote eventual healing. The NMT Concept was born by completely departing fr

om this compressive technique by thinking everything in terms of decompression and dilation. In the last thirty years various inelastic and elastic bandaging techniques have been developed in different parts of the world, but the origin of these methods always remains the compression of the various parts of the body. On the other hand, the new taping techniques date back to the seventies, which involve the application of an elastic adhesive tape, with different levels of tension, which always provide a compressive type stimulus capable of giving external assistance to the muscles and which is mainly applied in a sporting environment. In 2003 in Italy, David Blow modified the concentric taping techniques and proposed, for the first time, the concept of a tape applied with an eccentric action on the skin and muscles through a method of decompression and dilatation of the tape. This method known as NeuroMuscular Taping, in the medical and rehabilitation sphere differs from other methods for this particular eccentric, expansion and dilatation action implemented on the muscles, blood vessels and lymphatic pathways. The Training Area of the NeuroMuscular Taping Institute was born as a structure for the planning, coordination and implementation of training activities. It offers a training course aimed at medicine and rehabilitation professionals. In order to improve the offer of training services, since January 2011 all the training courses of the NeuroMuscular Taping Institute have been accredited according to the current European standard ISO. This certification is the confirmation of our professionalism and our continuous search for ever higher quality standards, which can guarantee the development of an effective therapy for the improvement of the patients treated. The Institute is the result of years of experience and research in the medical rehabilitation field of the founder David Blow, founded in 2003 in Italy with headquarters in Rome and since 2012 also in New York. David, in addition to having formed the teaching team of the Institute, personally teaches in hospitals, clinics, universities and private structures. The Neuromuscular Taping Concept (NMTConcept) is widely accepted and used by public hospitals and private clinics. Our philosophy is based on the use of clear and comprehensive educational programs to offer the NeuroMuscular Taping® method as a flexible technique that can be integrated with all rehabilitation therapies. NeuroMuscular Taping® is a treatment therapy developed in Italy, successfully used in hospitals, clinics and private practices and currently recognized and used as supportive therapy in medical rehabilitation. NeuroMuscular Taping® is the only technique capable of guaranteeing tangible results and proven and scientifically approved treatment protocols.

In this edition, we focus on the process following surgery, a common yet complex orthopedic intervention requiring precise, phase-specific care. We explore how ( ) offers a unique, non-invasive solution that supports healing from the acute post-operative phase through to full . With its decompressive application method, NMT addresses pain, edema, neuromuscular reactivation, and functional mobility—making it an effective adjunct to physiotherapy and manual therapy in restoring shoulder stability and upper limb performance.

In today’s evolving healthcare environment, there is a growing demand for treatment strategies that are both and . The NeuroMuscular Taping ( ) Institute is dedicated to advancing through the development of structured, reproducible protocols that improve across a broad range of conditions. This newsletter series introduces the scientific principles and therapeutic applications of , a decompression-based technique that enhances circulation, modulates pain, and supports neuromuscular function without limiting mobility. Through clinical research, , and interdisciplinary integration, NMT offers healthcare professionals a powerful, non-invasive tool for modern rehabilitation practice.

Can a strip of tape influence mobility in Parkinson’s patients? New clinical research says yes—when applied with method and precision. A recent randomized, observer-blind study published in Movement Disorders Clinical Practice(Radicati et al., 2025) confirms that NeuroMuscular Taping® (NMT) can improve gait, reduce rigidity, and enhance trunk control in patients with Parkinson’s disease. These findings support the integration of decompression taping strategies into evidence-based neurological rehabilitation.
But results like these don't come from improvisation. They stem from clinically structured application protocols and certified professional training. Official NMT courses provide the foundation necessary to safely and effectively apply this innovative method in neurodegenerative conditions. In this post, we break down the rehabilitation goals supported by the research and why proper certification is essential to translating theory into patient progress.

🌍 Gratitude and Collaboration in Jakarta, Indonesia
A heartfelt thank you to JAKNEWS for organizing the recent NeuroMuscular Taping Training dedicated to medical doctors specializing in Neurology.
Held over four dynamic days in Jakarta, this course strengthened the bridge between neurorehabilitation goals and the decompression-based action of NMT, focusing on improving fluid exchange and promoting tissue regeneration.
We were honored to welcome participants from across Sumatra, Borneo, Java, Papua, Bali, Sulawesi, and East Timor, all eager to apply these techniques to support patients with central and peripheral nervous system conditions.
Exciting steps forward in neurological care — one application at a time.

Pediatric is a significant public health concern in Africa, where many children face mobility challenges due to limited access to early diagnosis and treatment. While the remains the gold standard, barriers such as financial constraints, healthcare infrastructure gaps, and lack of awareness often hinder its success. By integrating innovative, cost-effective solutions like ( ), we can enhance treatment outcomes, improve mobility, and provide a more accessible approach to managing clubfoot in underserved regions.

Understanding Pediatric Clubfoot in Africa Pediatric clubfoot (Congenital Talipes Equinovarus) is a significant congenital deformity affecting children worldwide, with a higher prevalence in Africa. Estimates suggest that in some regions, clubfoot occurs in approximately 1 in 500 births.

This article explores the incidence and impact of burns, the key risk factors and complications associated with these injuries, and the integral role of in their treatment. Treatments must not only focus on but also on minimising complications, restoring function, and improving the patient’s quality of life. Innovative therapeutic techniques, such as (NMT), are increasingly recognised for their role in enhancing outcomes for burn survivors. By supporting , reducing , and improving , NMT complements traditional burn care methods and offers a non-invasive, patient-friendly solution to some of the most challenging aspects of . By integrating evidence-based strategies and effective , we can advance care for burn patients and help them achieve better functional and psychological outcomes.

Through its elastic, decompressive treatment design, NMT applies localised negative pressure that further aids by enhancing the efficiency of both intrinsic and extrinsic pumping actions. This approach is particularly effective in congested areas where flow may be impaired, promoting a healthy fluid balance and supporting the body’s natural and functions.
